Influences
Jimmy Page, Jose Feliciano, Carlos Santana, Toni Iommi, Jimi Hendrix, Heart, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Bad Company and Pink Floyd. The Top row four Artists were my heavy influences, the other Artists inspired me which resulted in some little wood shedding. We all need to find our inner selves.
Sounds Like
I believe my tone is more of a tenor, very viola like and very vocal as well. I love melody phrases with a ballance of some fast runs just to go for the cry. When someone gives me original music to work on or add guitar solos, I don't have a clue where to go, but I'll listen to the songs several times and i'll begin to structure the lead lines until it's story is complete.
People have said to me I sound alot like Eric Johnson, Carlos Santana, or Jimmy Page.
The influence is evident, so I really had to work hard to shape a sound that would effect human Soul without really abandening the root styles that I love so much. It's important to make your own musical statement or share your feelings through music so the listener can relate to you and in return makes them feel part of you. To me the guitar is more than just wood with strings, but a positive weapon which can bring down the WALLS of Jericho or depression ( HEALING ) if the right notes are involved!
I've learned through the years that applying feeling is better than technique because technical players - yes-they can impress the listener, but I rather go see a show with guitar players who touches the heart through real testimony and or feeling... instead of fancy techniques like super lightyear fast runs that leave you blind, or some other fancy techniques. I like the balance of both worlds up to a point but it's still more about feeling. To Me...."Gary Moore, Joe Satriani, Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and The Beatles" are all great examples of expression.
TONE IN MY OPINION:
The best tone I like is more in the midrange zone.
I set my amp's tone so that my overdrive is rich and fat where my guitar feels smooth and spongy to the touch.
I try to avoid that nasal distortion because it doesn't do anything for me unless there's some heavy rhythm playing involved.
I really appreciate very much when other guitar players approach me
and ask me to help setup their guitar rigs. It's all for the love of music!
When they play through their new settings you can see the glow in
their eyes! " My goodness I thought something was wrong with my RIG"
On one occassion I was in this church upstate ready to rehearse and this amp that they had there was "from what i was told" no good, and they were planning to trash it. They suggested that i should bother with it because it sounds bad.
So I sat on the floor in front of this little amp and began to make some fine adjustments. We went through the rehearsal and it was sounding pretty good!
That little amp seem to fill the whole place!
Two weeks later I found out that my friend Wilson Rodriguez has taken this amp home for himself!
