Influences
today it seems like the things that are influencing my creativity are of an earthly nature...
i am fascinated with (maybe in love with) crows, the shade of grey, the soft wine-colored edges of the leaves outside my bedroom window, nights so cold even the moon looks chilled, not sleeping, breathing....
Lately I have listening to Spain, Elani Mandell, Aimee Mann, Dayna Kurtz, Jeff Buckley, Gillian Welch, Innocence Mission, Mark Lanegan, Sibelus - Symphony No. 2 - and missing my Gorecki, Joseph Arthur, Low, Mary Lydia Ryan, Mojave3, Verbena, Lisa Germano..... and still a good amount of french and italian accordian music for some reason!
And of course, miss Polly Jean some how always ends up in my ears...
Sounds Like
Willow's music is imbued with a gentle lyricism-full of swirling strings alternating with hushed moments of pure voice-that suggests redemption might be possible after all."
~ The Seattle Weekly
"Willow is anything but the standard girl with a guitar and a back catalog of Joni Mitchell covers. Her songs take on redemption and longing, destiny and death with a crystalline alto and an undertow of darkness that tugs the songs from below."
~ The Stranger, 'Drunk by Noon'
Willow is a self-taught singer/songwriter, who, in 1992 put down her Bible and picked up a pawn shop guitar. Three chords later, the songs came flowing out. Judging from the fact that she had no subsequent musical experience, one could say she's a bit of a preternatural chanteuse. Like post-Christian rocker contemporaries, Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson, Willow's papa is a preacher man and prior to her fateful leap, she was an enrollee at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland Oregon. The result of her departure from conservative religion...her musical renderings are of an evolution of a spiritual nature - an earthly, poetic dance in the dark. For those familiar with the fire and brimstone of artist Nick Cave, Willow may be the polar sweet angel of darkness, redemption and desire.

Hiya Doll! I'm going crazy finding songs I love on iTunes - making a party playlist and realized I can't live without Pitney's 'Town Without Pity'. I think I gotta cover it.
I think it is the Golden State! I'm pretty sure that Florida is the Sunshine State. But I had to think about it! Wine school is sooooo hard. But I'm not just working hard, I'm playing hard too! Drinking lots of wine. I hope you are doing well. Really nice to hear from you. Give my love to Kevin.

Happy Anniversary, Lovely Willow. Seems just like yesterday to me. . . I hope you and Kevin had a wonderful day together. Virtual hugs to you both! --Mariah
I was just catching up a little on communicating to the lovely music sprites of the Northwest and finally getting the chance to send the photo Thian took of you last June. I think it's rather good for a 3 year old, but I know I'm biased. ;) Hope all is well for you and Kevin. Keeping you in our thoughts and hearts as always.
