About me:
Shakespeare Festival/LA (SF/LA) is a professional theatre company that enchants, enriches and builds community through
professional theatrical traditions that are accessible to all.
What is the Will Power to Youth Program?
Will Power to Youth is a nationally acclaimed youth employment initiative at Shakespeare Festival/LA. Twenty to thirty young people living in the city of Los Angeles are hired for the seven week program that develops self-respect, promotes mutual respect, increases literacy skills and fosters an appreciation for the arts. Youth spend time studying a Shakespeare play. They work with professional artists to create a new, community-developed production with unique flavors (which includes the feelings, styles, and thoughts of the group). Youth spend five days per week preparing a fully-staged, ensemble production to be performed at the conclusion of the program. In addition to gaining work skills, making new friends, and enjoying the new community that has been built, youth may also receive credit towards high school graduation that could help you on your path to success (and yes, you do get paid for the time spent).
