People fascinate me. I'd like to be one, one day. I can think of nothing more complex or adaptable. I am fascinated by the extremes of human experience, and can easily lose myself when I hear Tom Waits sing about the fiercest moments of tiny lives.
Music
Almost every band I've ever loved or ever been in is listed in my friends. I never planned to live with my sensibilities outside of the mainstream, but that seems to be the way it's happened.
Movies
"The Army of Darkness", "Monsters Inc." and "Fargo" are masterpieces. "Flying High" (Airplane) and "Top Secret" wiped me out for hours. The first time I saw "Supergirl" I was incapacitated for several days by Helen Slater's incomparable and ethereal beauty. I was too young at the time to realise it was a form of love. It was a beautiful pain.
Television
Has its place, and is a medium to which I wish to contribute.
Books
Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams are both saints. Their humour and humanity leave me dumbfounded, and the hard and logical edge to their silliness is a skill to which I aspire. It's easy to be silly, and so much harder to do it well.
Heroes
I am too easily influenced, and have made the decision to eschew heroes. There are many whose work and values I respect, though. Apart from the authors and the makers of the films listed above, I admire my sons and my wife. I admire people who have difficulties thrust upon them and who leach more experience out of life than I can as a nominally functional person. People who help others, people who allow others to help them.
About me: I fall in love with a scent, a playful expression or an act of casual intimacy more easily than with physical beauty. When confronted by both I am a lost cause.
I have done many things over and over. I have done even more things only once. I have half-done more things than I care to admit.
I visited Europe with the aching need to see Scotland, and succumbed to the clichés when I fell in love with Paris instead. I don't yet know if I can ski, speak Italian or keep calm in a life-threatening situation, but I have my suspicions.
I play bass in a swampy blues band. I loves to sing and don't let my voice get in the way.
Since I became a parent the crises of employment have paled. I commute to and from work on a motorbike. When I ride I am a lone wolf, a hunter. I am primeval, and for twenty minutes at a time, I am in control of my destiny.
I love the complications of English and the naturistic charm that results. I fear that streamlining it allows function to usurp form. Nature is beautiful without adherence to symmetry or consistency.
I am intelligent but not sensible. I am polite but inappropriate. I am passionate but fearful. I am honest but reticent. I am not scruffy enough or stylish enough to be cool.
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet my teenage self and give him a sense of grounding, of belonging. I'd like to let him know where the important parts of life can be found. I'd tell him not to concern himself with the tiny battles which will never matter.
I absolutely love the cover art for SAVAGE CRAVINGS! Thanks so much for bringing my characters to life with finesse. ~Marie♥ www.myspace.com/mariemarch

With little here to do or see Of things that in the great world be, Sweet Daisy! oft I talk to thee For thou art worthy, Thou unassuming commonplace Of Nature, with that homely face, And yet with something of a grace Which love makes for thee!

Gee shucks ... thanks for that :) I had my sister's 21st last weekend and it was a green theme party. I was going to throw some leaves in my hair and go as a tree but meh ... didn't quite get around to it. Oh well, at least I was wearing green :) I haven't had a chance to check out those links yet ... we are moving to Cairns in THREE WEEKS so I have been very busy as you can imagine! Might have to wait 'til I get settled up north before I get the creative juices cranking again!
Unfortunately I am not writing at all much at the moment ... I get lazy when I am not workshopping. I tend to write short stories, mainly because I don't have the attention span to write anything more substantial. I love writing really quirky, oddball sort of stories ... sorta like John Updike style stuff. And I love to write childrens stories ... I still read children's books now (Alice in Wonderland & Through the looking glass probably every year!!!) I am just a kid at heart really, and you can only REALLY write what you know. I've had a few things published in mags and helped co-write a travel book, but it certainly ain't paying the rent for me at the moment. I'd love to be a freelance travel writer but maybe all the glitz and glamour would fade after a while. What can I say ... sometimes my fingers can't keep up with the words popping into my head and sometimes I stare at the keyboard thinking there will never be another creative word travel from my brain down through to my fingertips ... I am sure you know the feeling though :)
Hi Wilsin! Very cool, maybe we should all be in our own union, lol. I've got friends in the U.S who read for me. As for proof reading or critting-I'm so slack, I have at least one thing I've been asked to look at and I just haven't had the time and now I'm into edits for my latest contracted work with Changeling. I know at least one person who I have trouble reading because the man I know and the thrillers he writes does not compute, lol. Have a great week in Brisvegas! (I actually hate that word but anyhoo...) Cyan
