Wing Chun Kung Fu
Wing Chun is most known for it's Aggressive Forward Pressure (Choung Jin) using Chain Punches (Chung Kuen). Many people put down Wing Chun and for good reason. Most practitioners Chain Punches are Fast but not very Powerful. An Advanced Wing Chun Fighter Would Be Rooted with Footwork looking More Like Fencing.
After About 7 Years Punches Are More Rooted With Less "Force" but Much More Power. Very Little Upper Body Strength is Used in Advanced Wing Chun. "Fa Jin" is Much More Evident.
In Advanced Wing Chun "Something" Takes over and The Fighter has No Idea of What Happened. This is Given Many Names but is Just Highly Perceptive Intuition and Fine Tuned Awareness and Kinistetics. This is The Reason for Chi Sao Training. To Totally Develop Intuition, Awareness and Feel. There is No Thinking in Chi Sao (Mushin). The Reason Why Advance Chi Sau is Done Blindfolded is to Totally Get You out of "Planning" and the Slowness of "Hand to Eye" Fighting. CHI SAO IS NOT FIGHTING! It is to Change Perception from Intellect to Intuition.
Even UFC Champion Chuck Lidell trained in Kempo for 10 Years Which Makes him One of the Most Powerful Strikers in the UFC. Although Kempo is Not Considered "Internal", After 10 Years Most Martial Artists become More Internal and and use Less Muscle Force (Li)
At an advanced level you are using very little muscle force (Li). Your hands "shoot" out like bullets with power coming from Ground to Hips to Waist, elbow and hands. This becomes almost pure internal Wing Chun. The power comparison is like Pushing an arrow into a target with you arm, as opposed to shooting it from a bow.
There is actually very little I use from Wing Chun as far as techniques. Less is More for me.
The Chi Sao training helped me a lot but for my weight and size I am very aggressive and have never stepped back or used any "defensive" moves or blocks. I also learned some basic ground fighting because many fighters train in BJJ now. I have no plans to compete so I basically wanted the basics and Spawl Training. That is what I trained in privately in Fort Lauderdale before I went to Arizona. In Arizona I trained with one of Augustine Fong's senior students.
For "Self Defense" I recommend CCW Permit and a good quality handgun either revolver or semi-auto. My favorites are the Sig Sauer P229, HK USP Compact .40 and S&W 386PD, a K frame, Scandium/Titanium .357 Magnum with light-gathering sights that fires seven rounds and weighs 18 ounces. I don't recommend using .357 rounds, .38 or 38+P are more than enough. These are just for muggers and car jackers... For the real thing, my choice is the popular AR 15 (.223). My favorite is the SIG 556 SWAT, not an AR 15 but uses .223/5.56 NATO. I also like the PLR 16 Pistol... Unarmed defense will get you in more legal trouble than a Defensive Weapon. Unless you compete, you should not fight for ego's sake.
Augustine Fong (Tucson, AZ) demonstrating Chi Sao.
I trained with one of his Senior Students, Gerard while I was living in Phoenix for the past 2 1/2 years. Augustine Fong is older than in this video but faster and more powerful.
My Martial Arts Sifu, Andrew Chung
My Sifu, Andrew Chung performing Hsing-I form
Sifu, Andrew Chung performing Southern Praying Mantis "Sam Bo Gen" form.
Sifu, Andrew Chung demos. This is not "actual fighting". These are demonstrations. Andrew was a full contact fighter in the late 70s and early 80s. Pre-1992 UFC days.
This is my Sifu Andrew Chung performing a Bok Mei (White Eyebrow) form. While many "tournament competitors" add flashy, show-off moves to their forms...They are all flash and show with no real power behind them. Sifu Chung practices the simple form but demonstartes pure internal power (Jin). Look at the full body motions deriving power from the ground. This type of Jin is known as Fa Jin (issuing power).
While travelling, I have seen Chinese Martial Arts practitioners from all over the world but never have I witnessed anything comparable to Sifu's short Jin which he exhibits in all of his styles. This short Jin has been popularized by Bruce Lees' "One Inch Punch". Andy has not competed since the late 70s during which he was also a successful Full Contact fighter
From Sifu Chung I learned the entire system of Wing Chun Gung Fu (Recently I have been training with a Senior Student of Augustine Fong in Arizona), Southern Praying Mantis (Jook Lum), Yang Family Taijiquan, some Xingyi and Bagua. I also learned forms from Hung Ga (Iron Wire) and Bak Mei (Known as "White Eyebrow" in English). Mainly what I learned is the use of Jin (internal power) as opposed to Li (muscular power) which transfers to all arts but especially Southern Shaolin and Wudang arts.
Jin can only manifest through "Soong" which is a state of relaxing/let go, not easily described in English terms. Jin has NOTHING to do with the False, stage magic, "Chi Power" demonstrations made by so many martial arts frauds. It also has nothing to do with so called "mind power". In fact, it occurs simultaneously with Mushin (no-mind). Any sort of "mind power" is an attempt for the ego to "control"... totally the opposite of the "let go" also known as Wu Wei in Taoism needed to gradually experience Soong.
Sifu is a Buddhist and a Taoist and rarely even does public demonstarations. He has always been very selective in who he would consider a student. Any bully, show-off or egoist would not be accepted or would be quickly booted out. Most of the time his enrollment never went above 10 members. He has never graced the covers of the slick MA magazines but he is very well respected within the true Chinese Martial Arts Community.
There are only a few individuals in my life that I consider "mentors" and most are long gone. Andrew Chung however, has been my "living mentor". I respectfully bow to you Sifu. Thank you for leading me on The Path which I have followed since 1986. Twenty One years on this Path and yet I am still a Beginner. Like any path, it is not linear, it has it's twists and turns, peaks and valleys, ups and downs...But you don't tread this Path through human effort. This Path is a stream and you allow this stream to carry you wherever it may. No reisistance against the current. This stream (like all streams) leads to One Place and that is the Ocean, where all streams and rivers become One again. The Ocean is Tao. The Path is the Path of Returning to Self.

As the first On-Air Mixing DJ in South Florida (99 Jamz, Hot 105 & Power 96) from 1984 - 1987, DJ Bob Rosenberg decided he would put the energy he put into his Mega Mixes ("Hot Mixes" from Hot 105) into creating new music. Hot 105 charted Bob's 5 minute Hot Mixes as regular songs. Most went to Number 1 on Hot 105's official chart based on call out research and requests.
Bob's first work at writing, production, programming and vocals was called Dreamin'. A few acetates were pressed but no records were made. The song went big in South Florida at Backstreet (Bob Miro, DJ) and at 4-D and Palladium in NY (Scott Blackwell DJ). Now a name was needed for the "band".
Bob's favorite philosopher at the time was Friedrich Nietzsche. A list of names were jotted down, "Zarathustra", "Ubermensch", "Will to Power"... "Will to Power" was chosen on the way down to Caribbean Record Pressing in April of 1987. The label was called Thrust Records with a "Thor's Hammer" as the "T". The original intention was to keep all songs on his own label and to release a series of 12" records.
Things changed. Major Record Labels heard about the song and started contacting Bob. Legendary Radio Program Director, Bill Tanner (Power 96 at the time) advised against giving Dreamin' away as enough records could not be pressed to keep up with the demand.
Bob was friends with Luther Campbell since 1984 in the Production Room at 99 Jamz. Bob created Multiple Edits on "2 Live Crew" and "Ghetto Style DJs" Records and was named "King of the Edits" by Dave "Mr. Mix" Hobbs. Bob's intentions were to keep it all on "Thrust Records".
New York Attorney Paul Schindler put together a Recording Contract with Epic/Sony Records. The demands of physically pressing and releasing 12" records and performing Live Shows got to be so much so Bob signed a deal with Epic. Dreamin' quickly climbed to the Number 1 spot on the Billboard 12" Sales Chart and stayed in the top 5 for 30 weeks in South Florida.
President of Epic/Sony A&R, Michael Caplan called Bob and said Sony wanted to release a full album. The following year, a follow-up was released entitled Say It's Gonna Rain and again, Will to Power found themselves on the Number 1 spot on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
Shortly thereafter, Will to Power - The Album was released. History was made when a medley combining Peter Frampton's Baby, I Love Your Way and Lynyrd Skynard's Freebird was released. The song Baby I Love Your Way/Freebird (Free Baby) infuriated rock purists but delighted the record-buying public. The well-produced ballad, which was a lush track augmented by gloriously rich vocals, rocketed to Number 1 on The Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the year's biggest hits and an enduring 1980s classic.
The hits kept coming with the next single, Fading Away reaching Number 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart and the release of the follow-up album Journey Home. The soulful ballad entitled I'm Not In Love earned the Number 4 position on Billboard's HOT 100 chart and hit Number 1 on Billboard's AC chart.
Will to Power has returned to the studio in 2005 & 2006 to work with some huge talent on their forthcoming album entitled Spirit Warrior which includes a remake of the C.O.D. classic In The Bottle remixed by Giuseppe D. Spirit Warrior includes collaborations with seasoned musicians Will to Power has worked with before like saxophonist Ed Calle, vocalists Donna Allen, Siddy Betancourt, and Gioia Bruno, as well as some other great South Florida talent like guitarist Dan Warner and Debbie Spring on viola to name a few.
2006 brought us the Spirit Warrior Remix EP with styles ranging from ballads, dance, bluegrass funk, and of course pop. One release from Spirit Warrior went to Number 1 in DJ TIMES magazine within 4 weeks.
Dreamin' was the absolute first record of it's kind. No song before it sounded anything like it. There was nothing remotely like it. Now known as "Electro Bass" and "Breaks" Bob decided to go back to his Roots and the sound he had pioneered in 1987. Now teamed up with Scratch-D of Dynamix II (David Noller) and Recording Partner, B-Minus (Bryan Ives). The new sounds cannot be pigeonholed into a category because it is Electro Bass & Breaks combined with Pop Vocals. Listen for yourself.
Check out our Single to be released on both Vinyl and CD in Early 2009. "Still Fading Away" Mixed by Scratch D of Dynamix II and DJ B-Minus sounds like nothing else out there. WTP NEVER put out what was trendy and "Hot" at the time. We are the ones to start it. We will be releasing 3 consecutive 12" Singles. The Third Single will be released along with a Full Length album/CD in Summer of 2009.
Will to Power will start performing live in 2009 at the time of the album release. Our live concerts will be LIVE. We have two great female vocalists along with Bob also on Turntables and an exciting array of Electro and other Musicians that played live on WTP tracks.
We would like to thank all of our loyal fans and DJs for all of their support.

Will to Power - "I'm not in Love"
Thanks to a fan for uploading the Anime video. Sony did not film a video for this Top 5 Hit.
If you do a Google Search on "2 Live Crew" you will see I was credited Bob "King of the Edits" Rosenberg on their first album. This song was their very first project while living in California. It was originally called "2 Live". It was just a Roland 808 straight beat and simple scratching. There was a 12" made on Macola Records (Where the artist pays the label). In it's original form it did not get much play.
Dave "Mr. Mixx" Hobbs (One of the very few I consider a friend in the music business) wanted to put it on their first album so asked me to do what I can with it. I "remixed" this song with the trick multiple edits heard throughout... Even the beats are mainly edits but you will definitely notice the obvious stutter edits and word plays ("Like Luke Sky, Luke Sky, Luke Skyywalker"). This line refers to the Star Wars character as they had not yet met Luther Campbell when they created the original track.
I only did a few outside projects and I never accepted money for any of them. It was always trade. I think I worked with just 5 people. Dave "Mr. Mixx" Hobbs, Larry Dermer (one of the producers for Gloria Estafan but at the time I worked with him he was the sound and production behind all of Pretty Tony's projects), Michael Morejon (writer, progammer and behind scenes producer of Jon Secada's "Just another day") Derrick Rahming (Afro Rican). Derrick's first time in a music studio was for the scratching on my "Miami Vice" in early 1985 and For Sosa who did all of the programming for my first album and is the real creator of the sound of Expose'.
