Okay...after living 36+ years on this little planet, I realize that I still don't know jack shit, but I'm fortunate to know more than I did before. I love getting older because the older I get, the less I care. I can't wait to be a crotchety old man that screams at ignorant children and simpletons whenever the mood strikes me.
"The Luge" - A Slightly Different Perspective
So the mountain biking bug has struck again. Ever since I moved back here to Orange County in 2007, I've heard people talk about a singletrack descent called "The Luge." From the name alone I knew it was something I wanted to try.
Sadly, a week after I moved here, fires devastated the Southern California area and many of the trails were closed for months. Efforts by the Forestry Service and many volunteers made these trails ridable once again.
So I've been putting a Specialized Enduro SL through its paces and I have to say that I've found a new favorite bike!
Those that know my riding style can attest to the fact that I'm a cross-country race geek kind of guy. A six-inch travel all-mountain bike is not really my cup of tea. But to put it simply, this bike is a blast! On descents, it allows me to ride a few levels above my ability. If I make mistakes, this bike makes sure that I don't wind up in the hospital. There were a few occasions where I would descend at ludicrous speeds and thought for sure that I was over my head and going down. This little Enduro said, "It's okay...I got you," and I would glide over obstacles like butter.
