I work as a personal trainer teaching martial arts, fitness and conditioning. Martial arts have been a passion for over twenty years now and continue to thrill me into training as much as I can. I'm having fun writing books and making instructional DVDs, available at www.paladinpress.com. Other than that, I enjoy having a good time with friends and the occasional totally random act of silliness. You can find more at http://www.wimdemeere.com

Who I'd like to meet:

Interesting people from various backgrounds, really. Martial arts junkies like me. It's all good.

    Hi Wim!
This is something that's great fun - my very sweet and VERY funny friend Karen Schindler has started a campaign to take my book trailers viral.
It's a hell of a challenge. Are you up for it? Drop by Karen's blog for instructions... let's prove what social media can really do!
On that page are twitter links so those with twitter can tweet! (Would be kinda fun to be a trending topic!!) Now off you go, and have fun. Let's get the hit counters on the videos jumping!! And don't forget my interview over at Blazing Trailers... http://blazingtrailers.blogspot.com/2009/10/meet-cat-connor.html

    Cheers,
    Cat x

And here we are just feeling the first warm days that hold the promise of summer - and of course horrendous winds that knock the blossoms off the trees. (If it wasn't for the wind we wouldn't know it was spring!)

Being upside down... our summer holidays happen over the Christmas period and extend into early Feb. (And they completely screw my schedule!! lol)

    Salut, Wim.... ça va bien?

  • Aug 4 2009 10:38 AM

Yes very true. I have an account on sherdog and bullshido but I dare not write anything because I just don't have the time for guys to tell me to screw off for no reason other than to make them feel cool that they can type offensive words on a computer.

The higher morals of MA really need to prevail.

Chuck! Funny! About Bruce, I was fortunate to have taken a few lessons at Andy and Taky Kimura's school in WA. It was cool to here first hand from such a good friend of Bruce, what he was like.

Someone that knew Bruce's skill personaly responded to my question "If Bruce were ressurrected today at top health, how would he do in the UFC?" and one responded "Bruce would clean house!"

I think definitely for stand up and grappling he was ahead of his time. I would say that he might need a refresher on updates to grappling, but then he'd be on top.

My purpose really isn't about fighting. I do believe that the highest level of fighting is healing and peace making after one learns how to fight at the highest level.

I'm just not about an intense life of fighting. I like qigong practice because of my metaphysical/occult interests. However, I really do think that every martial artist should be familiar with new developments in fighting so that if they do get taken to the ground, they're not like a fish out of water.

Yeah, your right on. Whenever I can afford it, I'm going to order from Paladin your dvds because I've seen the previews on youtube and your flow is right on!

Thanks for reading my interview! (took five hours to complete - was a marathon effort! lol)
Something about supposed anonymity seems to being out the worst in people - I'm careful which chat rooms I go to. (Barry's is safe, LOL) Yahoo is full of sicko types trolling... :-)

EXACTLY! I think that the traditionalists argue that MMA might not have roots and lacks the spiritual/deeper side of the MA. The MMA guys have an easy argument that traditional arts are not the most effective for real combat.

Take the best of both worlds I say. I want to learn internal Taoist martial arts from a Wudang monk for learning about Taoism and internal energy practice. I do admit that that might not have all of the best answers for today's new developments on combat. That's why it's so easy to also add in a little training (for at least familiarity if we're not going to go into the cage) of BJJ, wrestling, Boxing, etc. Is say that for real comnbat, stick with the easy more sure fire stuff to fall back on. Practice the more complex stuff for the sake of art and if you able to pull it off in a real match/fight then "PRAISE THE LORD!" All of the internal energy development and such I have my beliefs for doing but I wont claim that it is going to make me more effective as a fighter (it could but I won't front that). I will say to disbelievers that I do qigong because it's relaxing and feels good. They can't argue with that.
I always also maintain that qi could be not real either. I personally believe it does exist but say "But I could be wrong." This is what I would say to the "Bullshido.com" guys.

Wow! Nice! I'm a guy that tries to take the best of both the traditional and modern. One can stay up with MMA and still have their deeper spiritual roots in ma's and cultivate chi.

I'm particularly interested in the Taoist Religion and practices. This is why I like to learn tai chi chuan, hsing i, etc, but also learn how to grapple and box to stay up with the mma guys. Why not?!

See, this bothers me why some closed minded people have to polarize to one side and talk trash about the other.

This is what I like about your style. You practice the internal arts and also know how to roll and punch. I am going to buy your paladin dvds some day because I've seen the flow on the demo videos and it's what I feel is right.

    Awesome flow!

Mosquitoes aren't as bad as horse flies.  Those things will kill you in your sleep and laugh about it!  Really.  I swear. *grin*  Actually, I protest all bugs that appear to have the ability to stage a coup.  It's just not cool.  And yes, you're so easily terrified. I'm sure it was very traumatic. *grin*  Where was the cabin?
