Bio
The Stowaway Stringband will embark from Vancouver Island, sailing throughout the Southern Gulf Islands, this August, bringing their exuberant spin on Bluegrass, Oldtime, sailboats, and west coast living. Windpoweredtour 2012, ahoy! Pender . Gabriola .Mayne . Galliano . Saltspring . Vancouver Island . The Stowaway Stringband weaves traditional bluegrass, swing, and oldtime band standards together seamlessly with their powerful original song-writing, tight musicianship, and harmonies. With a set "that has its roots in the past, but its branches growing towards innovation, [group] are pure entertainment for audiences young and old" (CHFR-New Roots Show) The Stowaway Stringband are all experienced performers grounded in stage presence and audience rapport. Expect to hear hard hitting instrumentals, heart-warming waltzes, foot stompin' ravers and oldtime fiddle tunes, as well as original tunes seasoned with a west coast humour and lots, a funny story. From the deck of a sea swept boat, to any summer festival; from the marine side tavern to the Island Dance Hall - The Stowaway Stringband are sure to be worth you while. Wind Powered Tour Summer 2012 Tired of long roads, vehicle breakdowns, and the price of gas? For the second annual, The Stowaway Stringband are doing things a little more sustainably this summer. They are battening the hatches and taking to the Salish seas on a Wind Powered Tour of the Southern Gulf Islands. With a three sailboats, a crew of good friends, and a whole lot of stringed instruments, they are going to be dropping anchor, and playing tunes August 2012 into early September. Including hosting square dances on Pender, Gabriola, Galiano, and Saltspring Island, culminating as the host band for the Classic Wooden Boat Fest in Victoria's Inner-harbour. We are currently touring to support and promote this 'sustainable music' tour.
