Winduptoys started in 1997 as a side project for Robert U. J. Boehm (Bo from the band “Clowns Smiling Backwards”), where he could explore his more instrumental / electronic leanings as well as utilising elements from exotica, soundtracks and industrial / DUB…
A year or so later saw Jeremy P.C. Smith (“Tugboat “, “Wayfaring Strangers”, etc) joining him for live performances. This project has since evolved as a duo, utilising both their skills as sound engineers and experimenting with an ever changing abundance of electronics, musical toys, sfx combined with more organic instruments.
They like incorporating musical accidents and technology failure in their creations.
Winduptoys is also a part of Clan Analogue (a collective of electronic sound / visual artists formed in 1992). Their first official release was a CD / EP of Xmas “CUT-UPS”. This was followed by the single “Switch On”. They have also appeared on various compilations, including “IN VERSION: Dub Selections” & “Defocus” (both on Clan Analogue) and “Global Slowdown” (on Tempest Recordings).
They released their debut cd album “Double Exposure” mid 2006 (also on Clan Analogue).
More recently they have contributed tracks to the “Electundra Festival” CD & DVD compilations. The radio only promo “Oddities” (featuring live tracks & collaborations) saw the light of day at the end of 2008, with some copies available at live shows. They are currently working on their next album, tentatively titled “Split Second”…
Winduptoys have presented workshops, radio shows & DJ sets on " The History of Electronic Music".
They also float around as DJ’s & producers, collaborating with / or remixing artists such as Sunsaria (ex Psyburbia), Continuum, Koshowko, 2 Bit Orchestra, Angelpuss, Tiatto, Clowns Smiling Backwards & Butterflies in the Machine..
Winduptoys are based in Melbourne, Australia.

You're brilliant, thanks! Well..arrgghh it'll most likely be when we've done our HSC exams towards the end of the year, but not as a "schoolies" type thing, because that is just disgusting ahaha. I'd love a Bo Robot record shop tour. I was sort of lost there by myself last time, and probably missed out on heaps of sweeeetness.
