Turning of the Seasons (2008)
Turning of the Seasons is Wine & Alchemy's versatile debut recording.
Vintage 2008, Full bodied and with more than a hint of boldness, Turning of the Seasons is a blend of traditional and original music that pulls the listener into an epic journey of passion, adventure, mystery and betrayal that spans across a continent and an age.
Some songs in this unique compilation are influenced by or derived from the Celtic and English traditional folk genre, some the Mediterranean, Greece and the untamed "Gypsy" stylings of the eastern European continent, and still others find their roots in the French speaking world. With a blend of vocal styling, bouzouki, accordion, mandolin, penny whistle, violin, cello and a heavy dose of earthy percussion, this album toasts the new era of world music and is sure to be a gem in any music connoisseur's collection.
From Miserlou to Ravel's Bolero, from Matty Groves to Carmen, you will be pulled into a world unlike any other as Wine & Alchemy transforms sound into a mindscape of raw beauty.
Good luck at the show tonight. If it were not for the leak in my water resivoir I would have attended. But with my luck my car would over heat half way there and I'd be stranded. So have a little fun for me please! :)
It was great getting to know all of you for a semi-private concert last Saturday ; ) Can't wait to hear more wonderful music live this weekend, tho wish it wasn't the last of the season. Also, thank you for the mead, Jake. How about some cider this weekend, my treat? :D
I've caught the show at Scarborough more than once this season. Perfection! I will soon have photos and one video to tag. THANK YOU for such a moving experience. Looking forward to seeing you many more times.
I got my CD last night and have been listening to it all day. I am trying to figure out which song is my favorite, well besides Kashmir. I am torn between "Ripples in Time" and "Triskele"... Oh well, I guess I will add both to my list of favs by you!
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Hey guys! It was a hot, dry day here in Florida, reminiscent of BARF. It made me miss hanging out at the pub listening to you play. Hope you are having a great time at Scarby but know you are fondly remembered in the Sunshine state too. XD
