The story of WinSome Spurs actually begins almost 20 years ago, when two friends, Chris Grigsby and Phillip Bently, got together to "jam" in the living room one random Saturday night.
These friends became truck drivers hauling freight, and covering the Eastern side of the United States while carrying Guitars & Banjo's with them. They honed their skills and showmanship. "Our most notable performance back then," laughs guitarist, Chris Grigsby, "was when we played in the parking lot of the Budweiser Factory in St Louis."
As life deals out those twists and turns we all experience, the strings of Chris and Phillip fell silent. After nearly 10 years of geographical seperation, divine intervention took control and "WinSome Spurs" was born.
Natives of London, Kentucky, both Grigsby and Bentley began their musical journey's at early ages. Grigsby first took up guitar at the tender age of 9. He then progressed to the mandolin and fiddle. Having been influenced by a wide variety of musical icons, Grigsby has yet to settle on one particular genre of music. Studying the works of artists from Chet Atkins to the great Bob Wells, creates an energetic variety to every set.
Bentley began playing the upright bass at 6 years old from the urging of his parents. A very large instrument for a very small boy, Bentley soon learned to thump out rhythm standing on a milk crate, just so he could reach the strings. Picking up the banjo and guitar along the way seems to be no end to Bentley's talents. And accomplished bassist with the ability to "jazz up" the basic waltz or "walk the neck" on a classic western swing tune, Bentley's skills bring the heartbeat to the music of WinSome Spurs. In addition to his rhythm duties, when the Spurs switch to Bluegrass music, Bentley straps on the banjo to provide blistering hot licks you can't sit still to.
With God's divine intervention, Bentley and Grigsby have come back together to form "WinSome Spurs". They both share a desire and passion to produce quality entertainment that is suited for all ages and have loads of fun in the process!
