   About Winterfell
Originally formed in 2000 by vocalist Robb Graves, and Ex Guitarists Andy Craven and Jason Nadeau, Winterfell pounded away at the foundation of the Central PA music scene fighting for a chance to be heard in a region that shuns originality. Releasing an EP in November, 2002 entitled Winter is Coming with Ex Drummer James Irvine, Winterfell received praise and worldwide support from a growing fan base. This prompted a lineup change soon after, adding Bassist Greg Weitknecht and replacing James with Ex Drummer Ed Silva. The new lineup toured lightly in the PA, NJ, MD area and even hit the Milwaukee Metal fest before finally completing and releasing thier first full length album independently in August of 2005 entitled The Veil of Summer. This 9 track disc would go on to receive great praise worldwide earning positive reviews form countless webzines, and print publications (including Hard Rock and Metal Maniacs) eventually selling out of it's initial 1000 disk pressing in early 2006.

Sadly, shortly after the release of Veil, Drummer Ed Silva and Andy Craven left the band to pursue lives outside of the music industry.

Winterfell played it's last official show November 3rd 2005 at Jaxx nightclub in Springfield Va. opening for Seven Witches and Kamelot with new drummer Brady Sadler. It was a legendary night and an unforgettable show.

Vocalist Robb Graves has vowed to continue Winterfell with a new lineup sometime in the future but for now the band remains on an indefinite hiatus. Enjoy the music, and always remember... Winter is Coming...

I wrote a song called 'the snow crow' about jon snow (on my profile) thinking I was the only one to do a SOIAF related ssong, then I discover THIS.

This is too cool, I hope you get this band happening again. I am definatley a fan now.

an album to correspond with the release of ADOD would be cool... but then so would one this year ;)

A Song of Ice and Fire is becoming an HBO series.

This sounds like a lot of free publicity for Winterfell!

I Recently went back and listened to the veil of summer EP. What a Great album! Awesome songwriting, fantastic progressive elements and very interesting harmonies. I especially love the epic lyrical content. It is truly a shame we never had the opportunity to play a show together. I hope someday soon WINTERFELL can be ressurected. Best of Luck!

Actually the July issue. And I quote Mr. Dave Brenner from page 95, The Firing Squad:

Winterfell. The Veil of Summer. You like it really sanitary, like crystal-fucking-clear? Winterfell boast truckloads of clean/acoustic guitars (of the swift and accurate prog nature in addition to their occasional low-key, melodic breaks), empowering vocals and tight, laser-targeted drums that surge their songs onwards. If you frequent tunes by Watchtower, Control Denied, and of course Dream Theater, you've found a savior in Winterfell. Immaculately recorded, The Veil of Summer sports 54-minutes of pristine musicianship and forward-thinking progressive metal intricacies. It's only now that I'm reading their bio, after the review, that I realize they're from my hometown, and dudes, I wish you the very best of luck getting shows, 'cause there ain't a whole lot of massive metal outlets in them parts. Killer stuff. Robert M. Graves, 513 Estelle Sr., Lancaster, PA 17601. www.winterfell.org.

I just got A Game of Thrones about three days ago, and when I got a few pages in I thought, "Wait, isn't there a band called Winterfell?" Anyway, I love your stuff, fantasy metal rules! And it's good to see another metal band from PA!

You guys fricking rule. Good luck with the drummer issue. If I could drum, I'd get my ass over there and audition, but sadly, I am only a singer/lyricist.

Myself and Wizard Rahl were in the process of creating a myspace profile for our new book based power metal band Winterfell... clearly we're too late. We’ve already made our wolfskin pants so I guess a name change is in order. Any suggestions?

Anyhoo you guys are awesome and that Winterfell writing is intense... best band logo I’ve ever seen
