"The Local Music Journey: thoughts, advice and inspiration for your indie music career from Wisconsin independent music professionals," is the title of book currently being compiled and, thus far, independently published by Wisconsin independent musician Nick Venturella...
The Wisconsin Indies book project will profile a selection of Wisconsin independent musicians / music professionals (i.e. indie label owners, promoters, studios, engineers, producers and live music venue owners).
Here are the basic goals of the book...
- bring awareness to the amount of talent and ambition of Wisconsin’s indie musicians and music professionals
- offer encouragement for those who already are, or those interested in
becoming, independent musicians/music professionals regardless of what state they live in
- highlight where in the state of Wisconsin our book participants are from
- showcase tips/words of wisdom from each of the musicians/music professionals profiled in the book that can serve as a “best practices” and “pitfalls-to-avoid” guide for indie musicians/music professionals

THE TIME HAS COME FOR ME TO STOP CONSIDERING WISCONSIN INDIES FOR MY BOOK PROJECT
I've received an overwhelming response of various WI-based independent music professionals with interest in being involved in my book project...for that I thank you. It's with a heavy heart that I have to stop accepting new submissions for the project. I know we've only scratched the surface with the amount of talent and passion that resides in our fair state of WI.
Now, it's just a matter of time for me to put the rest of the book project together and get this thing in my online store available to the public.
I hope to have the book released by Spring '09. We'll see what happens...as far as actually producing the end product, it's just me working on it, so I'm doing the best I can as quickly as I can...I appreciate everyone's kinds words of encouragement, and thanks for your patience. This project has, so far, been well received in the WI indie music community.
I can't stress enough the value of this project for everyone involved...it's additional publicity beyond what you are already doing to promote yourself. I hope this project will help generate great exposure for all musicians/music professionals involved. I'll do my best to see that it does.
Thank you in advance to everyone who has taken the time to share their stories with me. The sheer amount of good music and positive projects that are going on are inspiring and extremely encouraging. Please continue to do what you do.

Book criteria for those profiled in the project:
You must currently reside in Wisconsin or have a strong current music connection to Wisconsin that brings you back for music purposes fairly often.
You must be an indie musician or music professional (see my broad definition of INDIE:
- INDIE Musician: A musician who maintains complete creative control over their music, its distribution and the direction of their career.
- INDIE Music Professional: A professional within the music industry who may or may not be a musician, but holds significant responsibility toward the production and/or consumption of indie music. Indie Music Professionals may have worked on major label projects, but remain independent as their own entity within their business and endeavors. (i.e. a studio engineer/owner, concert promoter, indie label owner, an indie music journalist, venue owner of a place that has regular live music, etc…but you get the idea. It’s a pretty broad definition)
You must currently be active as an indie musician or music professional and have at least three years of indie music experience
I'm not looking to profile much for cover bands or tribute bands, but I will probably explore a few.
The book is mainly going to focus on folk, pop, rock, and Americana genres of music ...maybe more, depending on the interest from musicians and music professionals
