BACKGROUND
WITH A LITTLE HOPE FROM MY FRIENDS is a charity album featuring songs from 'The Beatles' as performed by independent artists from the Western Australian music community. The album features Baby Animals lead singer Suze DeMarchi as well as Western Australian Idol finalists Cosima De Vito, Chris Murphy and Courtney Murphy. The album also features the Variety Youth Choir, local favourites Dave Mann Collective as well as various Western Australian Music Industry (WAMI) award winners.
The project is an initiative of Parkerville Children and Youth Care, a not for profit organisation in Western Australia that strives to protect, care and advocate for the most vulnerable children and youth and provide a therapeutic environment that will assist their recovery and potential for growth. Parkerville Children and Youth Care has set its roots in Perth since 1903 and is currently in the preliminary stages of establishing Australia's first Child Advocacy Centre. STORY
There are themes in this story that speak of every child's journey through care and the songs of the Beatles touch at the heart of this.
Dear Prudence tells of the grief and loss a child can feel when they are taken from their parents and
Octopus's Garden speaks to us about how trauma brings change, isolation and loneliness for a child. A child's sense of shame and yearning for their birth family is explored in
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away and their sense of helplessness within the system in
While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
With a Little Help from my Friends speaks to us about attachment and the importance of relationships, and the love and care within those relationships is revealed in
Golden Slumbers. With
Here Comes the Sun we begin to see the theme of hope emerge and
The Long and Winding Road touches upon the resilience a child needs to cope with the obstacles on their journey.
Blackbird is the song of freedom. The freedom that allows a child to live a life that is not controlled by the memories of their past, but rather by their hope for their future.
PURPOSE
We share this story with you in the hope that you will gain an understanding of the difficulties that our children face every day. Through understanding we can develop compassion, patience and empathy, which is a key intervention in itself. We can be the proof that the world really is a safe and friendly place and help our children reclaim the childhood they deserve. We can lead them to hope for their future.
