Simplist Things
WithiN was formed in Topeka, Ks. in January of 2005 when lead singer and acoustic guitarist, Paul Schneider, and long time friend and current guitarist for the acoustic band Hour of Decision, Larry Perez reunited after a long time separation. The two began writing and soon realized that the music needed to be heard and needed a full band to put it together. In March of 2005 WithiN found drummer Mark Eitzen who had recently moved to Topeka from Witchita, Ks. Eitzen was immediately added to the group after one audition when it became apparent that his natural ability to write on the fly would propel the groups writing to a new level. Eitzen was so powerful and solid on the drums that the group never looked at another drummer and the rhythm section had its solid foundation.
Filling out the rhythm section wouldn’t be quite as simple as the group auditioned several bass players not finding one that fit the style or level of talent needed for the music being written. In June 2006 Schneider contacted guitarist/singer songwriter Luther Delacroix, who Schneider had toured with on a solo project in 2003 and 2004 to see if he would be interested in filling in on Bass and background vocals until a permanent Bass player could be found. Once Delacroix began playing with the band it became apparent that his style and the fact that he played a fretless bass added so much to the music, it was agreed that Delacroix become the permanent bass player rounding out the rhythm section of the band.
The journey would take WithiN through a number of different creative turns until in mid 2006 Perez decided to leave the band to pursue a different creative avenue with his new group. Perez’ influence can still be heard on several of the current original songs from the band’s current CD “Faces”. Perez remains friends with Schneider and WithiN to date and his new group is currently opening for WithiN while building its fan base and recording.
With the departure of Perez, WithiN needed to fill the gap left on lead guitar. Several months would pass with no success in finding a suitable replacement for Perez until Schneider made a connection with local guitarist Jarrod Guth who had played extensively in College and with Country artist Garen Nolan locally with much success and studied under the incredible finger style guitarist Andy McKee. Once again WithiN found themselves adding a member after only one audition. Guth is so fluent on the guitar and grounded in music theory that he began writing lead parts on the fly in the first audition with the band. Guth stepped in in the middle of the recording process and wrote all new lead parts to every song giving WithiN its unique sound it carries today.
WithiN is currently touring in support of there debut release “Faces” which comes with rave revues and is also adding new original music to it’s set list in anticipation of a second release already in the works. With interactive live show’s and musicianship that is unmatched in the local music scene, WithiN is a must see.
