Making no claim as a force for political change, Oakland power trio With Report likes to call itself a punk band. Formed in the summer of 2006, the band plays songs that are more personal in nature compared to most modern music. Unlike many bands falling under the so-called “pop punk” genre, With Report does not rely on playing sappy songs at twice the speed. With Report focuses on playing heartfelt music without sacrificing the intensity associated with the punk sound. The band’s four-song demo recorded and produced by Sean Greaves (Social Distortion, 7 Seconds, The Joykiller) has drawn comparisons to bands such as Bad Religion and Strung Out from online reviewers. One of the songs, “Exiled” was the featured song of the day on Garageband.com.
The band incorporates the qualities of several genres into its sound. Although front man Pierre Chan cites Face to Face as his biggest influence, his playing also exhibits qualities similar to U2’s Edge and Big Country. Coupled alongside Pierre is the emphatic drumming of the newest arrival Bradley Morgan. The versatile rock drummer provides relentless energy to the band’s songs and performances. Grounding this varied range of sounds is the old-school punk bass stylings of Andrew Harrison, who counts bands such as Social Distortion and the Ramones as his favorites. The three members mix these influences and others to create a sound that is uniquely their own.
While each member works a full-time day job, the band’s drive and work ethic have already landed them shows at local venues such as Rooster's Roadhouse and Thee Parkside, and out-of-town shows in Sacramento and Las Vegas.
Having already shared the stage with acts such as The Vibrators (UK), Kill the Drive (ISRAEL), Final Summation (SACTO), Drastic Actions (SACTO), and Viva Hate, look for With Report at a local venue near you.
Nice tune-age dudes. I'm impressed. Totally stoked to see you guys live, we'll just have to figure out a way to sneak me in! Maybe I could pass off as one of your roadies or somethin'. Lol.
