Louis Real, born and raised on the Real Ranch in Kerrville, Texas has been singing and playing for 40 something years. He took piano lessons for 8 years and reverted to guitar so he could perform at the parties. Louis was never without his guitar. One time he and a friend were plowing a field at the ranch. Louis was on the tractor wheel well playing his guitar and writing. He wrote a song called "Come Over To my Side" that afternoon. His friend's father said that it was a site to behold. He writes his songs about experiences on the ranch and the ladies in his life.
In high school he was a member of the all state choir 4 years in a row. Louis won the Songwriters contest at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1978. He has a song called "Little Butterfly" on the 1979 Kerrville Festival Album. He was recently the recipient of the best musician in the hill country award. He has a belief that he lives by, "If you don't put 100% of your soul into your music you shouldn't perform at all". He believes that you should be totally worn out when you finish a concert or you didn't give your all. He loves old rock and roll and is having a ball being a part of Witzend.
David Warnell was born and raised in the Heart of the Texas Hill Country in the town of Boerne. At the age of 12, David’s sister gave him an old beat up guitar from Mexico. From that day on, music was in his heart and soul. Growing up with numerous siblings, 5 sisters and 2 brothers, playing his guitar was David’s escape. He grew up listening and playing to all genres of music, from oldies doo-wap to classic country, and of course, his favorite, classic rock. Some of the major influences to his love of music were greats like Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Hendrix, Allman Brothers and Stevie Ray Vaughan. But if you were to ask David who his all time favorite group was, he would quickly answer The Beatles. David is a play-by-ear musician. If he hears it, likes it, he will do his best to play it.
David has played with numerous bands over the years, which include Grand Rock Central, Blues Report, Flight and The Jimmy Cribb Band. He has also had the pleasure to perform with Nick Lawrence, Charlie Robison, and Flaco Jimenez.
David’s talents include vocals, playing the electric lead guitar, acoustic guitar, and mandolin.
When Ken Smith, Emmett's father brought home a Gibson Les Paul Jr. and a Gibson combo amp, he couldn't have had a clue that further down the road, a romance would develop between the six strings and Emmett.
Emmett has acquired many more guitars since then, he was thirteen years old and there was no end in sight.
After wood shedding many late night hours he joined with other local Southern California musicians and played in many "garage bands" for parties and gatherings etc.
He then pursued other business interests, but always had a guitar nearby.
After moving back to San Antonio, Texas, Emmett began playing with Rex Foster, a Comfort, Texas based singer/songwriter and recording artist. This whirlwind experience allowed Emmett to hone his skill while playing at the Kerrville Folk Festival twice, a TV appearance on Texas Country Reporter Annual Festival, recording with Peter Rowan, Asleep at the Wheel's Cindy Cashdollar and Paul Pearcy who plays with Terry Hendrix. That's just what the doctor ordered.
Wanting to venture into other venues he formed a duo with Graham Warwick. Soon after bass player, Louis Real was added, along with Bobby Brown on drums. The Smith-Warwick band won the "best blues band in the Hill Country" award and Louis Real won "Musician of the year".
Carlos Escobedo grew up on the King Ranch near Kingsville Texas where his parents worked. Carlos has two brothers and one sister.
Carlos was 9 years old when he found his passion for playing drums.
He would sit on the edge of his bed with two makeshift drums sticks, made out of wooden hangers, banging out a beat on his mattress. His parents could stand this for just so long and decided to buy him a drum set. This was the beginning of Carlos’ musical career.
As he got a little older he started playing with area bands. Smokestack, a well known band in the area, was one of the first bands he played with. He would sit in with the band doing vocals and occasionally playing the drums. He finally put together a three piece band called Medusa, where he sang lead vocals and played drums.
In 1975 Carlos married his life long friend, Norma. Together they have three children and nine grandchildren. Carlos and Norma reside in Kerrville, TX
Carlos was inspired by musicians such as Bonham and Don Brewer from Grand Funk.
Carlos has played with numerous bands over the years. He has played with such as Blind Image, Sol Patch, Rock Trip, John Allen, Wes Creech, Cedar Fever, and Rex Foster.
Carlos was voted Drummer of the Year in the reader’s choice awards in 2007 and still holds the title today.
Carlos has played all types of music, but his favorite is Classic Rock.
