What I'm Listening To

Interests

  • General

Easier to list what I'm not interested in. But we'll try...the Big Three are Raqs Shaquri (a.k.a. "Belly Dance"), Programming, and the Society for Creative Anachronism.

  • Music

Wide and diverse -- so long as you don't mention Barry Mailow. *shudder*

    raqsasim's Profile Page

Try my Pandora stations for a sample of the range:

  • Movies

Movies are rare on the ground, for me. I kind of wished I had a crew to go see more flicks with -- I'm more liable to curl up with a chunky history or tech-weenie book than to watch a DVD, I fear.

  • Television

I don't even own a Television. How's that for being up on the zeitgeist? Yes, that means I've never seen LOST, or HEROES, or SURVIVOR, or even WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? Who cares who wants to be a millionaire, unless it's getting handed to moi!

I do manage to keep up with two complex and rich shows, VERONICA MARS and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Both manage to keep me thinking about the ethical/moral questions they raise long after the episode is over -- a rarity, so far as I can tell.

I also catch DOCTOR WHO, as much for nostalgia as anything.

  • Heroes

Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid... He is the hero, he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor, by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world.

    ---Raymond Chandler

  • Over 18 years as a male belly dancer. Have I got some weird-assed stories to tell...
