Starting January 2009, I will be on an eight-month deployment. I will not be checking myspace regularly, if at all, during this time.
I'm originally from Uniontown, PA, and grew up in both California and Pennsylvania. Upon graduating from high school, I moved around, eventually settling in Reno where I attended the University of Nevada. After college, I went through the Navy's officer candidate school and received my commission in March 2001. Now I'm a lieutenant and assigned to the USS Boxer in San Diego, CA. I spent all of 2007 in Afghanistan.
I have a bachelor's degree in math, which is a subject I don't use much anymore, but having the degree did give me the opportunity to become an officer in the Navy. When I'm not working, I'm probably watching movies. I've seen over 2000 of them. I plan to resign my commission in September 2010 and pursue film school in Los Angeles, while maintaining my ties to the military via the Naval Reserve. I've already written two screenplays and I have outlines for more.
Politically, I'm a conservative and registered Independent. I'm very much interested in American history, especially during the colonial period. I fully believe that our government today is completely out of step with the kind of government the Founding Fathers created. One of my favorite quotes from American history is this one, by Daniel Webster (1782-1852), a former Senator and Secretary of State: "Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing."
Who I'd like to meet: Kirsten Dunst
Favorite Quotes:
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security." - Benjamin Franklin
"Collecting more taxes than is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery." - Calvin Coolidge
"Democracy is the most vile form of government... democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention: have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property: and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths." - James Madison
"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive." - Thomas Jefferson
