We support the financial settlement of the North Shore Road issue.
We are opposed to building the “Road to Nowhere”
We are opposed to selling any National Forest land, particularly for the Rural Schools Funding Initiative.
We are in favor of ending all commercial logging on National Forest land.
We are in favor of reinstituting the roadless initiative which was instituted by President Clinton and rescinded by President Bush.
We are in favor of increased funding for protection and maintenance of our National Parks, National Forests, and other resources, such as the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We are opposed to an 8-lane connector for I-26 through Asheville. We support the 6-lane alternative.
We believe counties and municipalities should plan their future growth for sustainability.

The WNC Alliance was formed in 1982, in Macon County, in response to a threat of oil and gas exploration in the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. After the citizens were successful in protecting the forests from that immediate threat, they saw the power in their actions and decided to keep their organization alive.
The original group which formed to protect the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests was a combination of area natives, new arrivals to the area, environmentalists, bear hunters, and so on – an alliance of folks from various backgrounds who all shared the same interest – protecting the forest.
We are a grassroots group, made up of local people who are working on local issues. We don’t have a national organization behind us, and our members decide which issues we’ll take on. We’ve been particularly effective for the past 25 years because we focus on regional issues, we have strong rapport with area decision-makers, and the decision-makers know that we speak for a large and committed group of citizens. We have almost 1,500 members, including over 350 businesses!

It's been a long, long road but the time is almost upon us. After 40,000 miles, 4 national tours, and a head full of American landscape, we've finally finished our debut album, Only Sleeping. We will be having our CD Release show this coming Wednesday, December 10th at The Grey Eagle Music Hall in Asheville, NC. We will be accompanied by special guest, Oso Rey, the show starts at 8 pm, tickets are only $8 and CDs are only $10 inside the door!!! Come join us for this pre-holiday festive extravaganza and be the first to see The StereoFidelics like you've never seen them before (kinda). Some new songs, new approaches, and new gadgetry will set the stage and, of course, enough energy to power a medium sized village. Thanks for your support and see you there!!
Hello from your Mamas! After putting hundreds of miles on the ole trusty Subaru with a busy summer and early fall of festivals and southeastern listening rooms, racking up hundreds of sound checks, hitting countless truck stops, scenic overlooks and seedy motels and crashing on many kind people’s couches, we are delighted to share with you that we Mamas will be returning to some of our favorite local venues this coming weekend. For our Charlotte fans, we hope to see your faces at the Evening Muse this Friday evening the 14th, and the following evening, Saturday the 15th, we hope to see all of our beloved hometown fans (you!) at the Grey Eagle in Asheville where our buddies Town Mountain will warm up the stage for us. We can’t wait to step back onto our favorite home stage and share some of our new songs and stories from the road with you. And as if that were not enough, you can also look forward to our hearing our fiddle player Anna Bauman-Smith make her songwriting and singing debut with us on Saturday evening. Wahoo!
Just giving you a heads up that January looks like it is going to be a very busy month…what with recording our new album and all…That’s right, you heard us! We will be going into the studio in January to record our long-awaited second album. Look for it later in ’09 and you can be sure that we will invite you to celebrate its release with us. Other things to look forward to in January are our New Years Eve performance at the White Horse in Black Mountain, as well as our show at Jack of the Wood on Friday January 9th, which also happens to be Miss Jane’s birthday. She especially requests your presence at this show and will accept gifts in the currency of whiskey ;)
