2010 Last Band Standing Call for Local Bands

WNC Magazine's Last Band Standing: Road to Bele Chere returns! Last year, over 60 musicians and bands entered for a chance to play the kick-off spot during Bele Chere and receive lots of great music-related prizes. More than 16,000 votes were cast and the four finalists performed in a battle-of-the-bands concert at the Orange Peel.

Think you have what it takes? Fill in the form online and you might be playing at the Last Band Standing concert on June 23 for a chance to be the opening act at Bele Chere!

You must live in Western North Carolina and play original music (only two covers will be allowed at the Last Band Standing concert).

    More information available at http://www.wncmagazine.com/lastbandstanding

About me:

WNC magazine captures the essence of Western North Carolina through beautiful photography, profiles on intriguing locals, gorgeous homes, and tips on where to go and what to do. WNC magazine is a celebration of everything you love about Western North Carolina -- breathtaking vistas, rich histories, outdoor adventures, colorful arts and entertainment, and the stories of the people behind them all...

Who I'd like to meet:

YOU!

Calling All Artists!

For the second year in a row, WNC magazine is putting out the call to Western North Carolina’s emerging visual artists. It’s a crowded field around here for talented people and sometimes it can be difficult to get your work seen by the public. That’s why we’re looking for painters, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers, mixed media artist, fabric artists, and any other type of local visual artist who’s looking for an opportunity to reach a wider audience.

We’re accepting submissions for On the Verge, a juried competition, from now until Friday, January 15, 2010. Submit your entry at www.wncmagazine.com/otv. The winners will not only be featured in WNC magazine’s Arts Issue in June, but will also have their work exhibited in a month-long show at Flood Gallery & Fine Arts Center in the heart of Asheville’s River Arts District.

New for 2010

WNC magazine is proud to partner with Phil Mechanic Studios and Flood Gallery & Fine Arts Center, for On the Verge. Phil Mechanic—and the River District as a whole—is an integral part of this area's flourishing arts community. This year, the On the Verge exhibit will be open to the public during the River Arts District Studio Stroll on Saturday, June 12, 2010, meaning even greater exposure for the finalists.

We are also adding a People’s Choice category to On the Verge this year. In February, visitors to www.wncmagazine.com/otv will be able to view samples from all the submitted artists and vote for their favorite. The top pick will be an On the Verge finalist.
