Our influences are quite varied when it comes to the songs we write, although most of them sound similar, Influence from all of these bands, and many more, has had a massive impact on the music:
We sound something like what you would get if you put Evergrey, Stratovarius, Kamelot and Necrophagist together in a blender, Threw in some chilli powder and whiskey, and drank it straight, before sitting down and playing some music.
In the summer of 2006, cousins Lowell Brook (guitar) and Oscar Manthorp (keyboard) decided they wanted to form a band, inspired by the melodic power metal scene and bands likie Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius and Helloween. Oscar's brother Jim Routledge (bass) and friend Jesse Howie (guitar) were also recruited and the band was named Candle in the Dark. The early material, written exclusively by Oscar and Lowell, was simple and energetic power metal, with very little complexity and almost no progressive or technical elements.
Progressive metal bands such as Dream Theater, Evergrey and Symphony X had become part of the band's influences and the newer songs showed this with more complex compositions as well as technical musicianship. The new approach to music also prompted a new name, Wolfen Land.
The band is currently concentrating on other things, such as University and College, although new material is still being written.
