- 80,556 adults were living with HIV in the UK reported by the end of June 2006.
- 34% of People living with HIV/AIDS in the UK don’t know
- End of June 2006, 36,920 men who have sex with men have been diagnosed with HIV in the UK.
- Number of infections probably acquired from heterosexual sex within the UK has soared from 180 in 1998 to 521 in 2005.
- During 2005, there were 3,839 reports of heterosexually acquired HIV, and a total of 32,361 had been reported by the end of June 2006.
- End of June 2006, reports showed that 4,470 people had acquired HIV by injecting drugs
- In total, 1,818 people had been reported as infected through treatment blood/tissue transfer or blood factor by the end of June 2006. Of these, 81% were diagnosed before 1991.
- 1,429 UK diagnoses of HIV in people who acquired the virus from their mothers.
- The problem of AIDS in the UK gets much less attention from the public and the media than it did during the Eighties and early Nineties. This leads many people to assume that AIDS is no longer a problem in this country; in reality, the increasing prevalence of HIV in the UK proves that this is simply not true.
- People in the age group 25-34 years have accounted for 44% of all HIV diagnoses in the UK, as of the end of June 2006.

About me:
We are a society of students at Wolverhampton University that are dedicated to fighting the pandemic that is HIV/AIDS. This society is based at wolverhampton university but is part of the nationwide Student Stop AIDS Campaign, within the UK Consortium on AIDS & International Development.
