HAIFA ZANGANA is a novelist and former prisoner of Saddam Hussein's Iraqi regime. She is a weekly columnist for al-Quds newspaper and an occasional commentator for the Guardian, Red Pepper and al-Ahram Weekly. She lectures regularly on Iraqi culture, literature, and women issues.
This year’s conference will bring together more than 400 participants for a weekend of exchanging our observations, ideas, experiences, opinions, and tools for change—and planning together for action.
At WAM!2008, we’ll share facts and ideas and develop skills and action plans to transform the media environment and amplify progressive women’s public voices—as analysts, opinion-makers, community members , and influential participants in civil society. But to do that, we need you!

Who I'd like to meet:
media producers, PR strategists, journalists, activists, academics, community organizers, funders or philanthropists, “citizen” media watchdogs, media policy advocates, alternative-network-builders, bloggers, writers, teachers, artists, technology trainers, deejays, and any progressive people concerned about women’s voices and power in the media.
Plus, keep up-to-date with Facts and Figures on Women in the Media and WAMmer's Websites.
