Sounds Like
A rollicking, estrogen-injected evening of powerhouse women in folk music from the Canadian West!
Joanna Chapman-Smith grew up in a musical family that has its roots in New Zealand, Italy and Brazil and her songs are as eclectic as her upbringing. A multi-instrumentalist with a stunning voice that would melt the hardest of hearts, Joanna is a gifted musician who delivers beautiful lyrics with a rare, emotionally-infused skill that leaves audiences speechless, almost breathless, after every song she sings.
Kate Reid is a whip smart wordsmith armed with a guitar, a cache of harmonicas and a knack for candid story-telling and songwriting that is charged with humour and social-political commentary. A straight shooter but definitely not straight, she is as charming as she is in-your-face and is one of the most original, incisive and entertaining songwriters to appear on the scene in a long time.
Swedish-born songwriter, Sarah MacDougall is a storyteller, entertainer and minstrel with a haunting voice and songs to match. Her music rips your heart out, twists it around and then gently coaxes it back home and her Euro-Folk Americana style has earned her the reputation as one of the best emerging singer/songwriters of western Canada.
Don’t miss Joanna Chapman-Smith, Kate Reid and Sarah MacDougall as Women in the Round: three outstanding musicians who come together on stage to perform an entertaining, often riotous show of their original tunes in a round-style format. They deliver dynamic stage presence, intelligent lyrics, stellar guitar-playing and a banter with the audience that makes you feel as though you’re sitting in your favourite watering-hole, swapping stories with these women over a few beers…well, in fact, you can be. Don’t miss some of western Canada’s best emerging songwriters featured in Women in the Round.
