Women of Distinction Hampton Roads was founded on a Sunday evening at a table in a quaint lesbian household in Ghent by a group of African-American female friends (and one male lesbian).

We had become sick and tired of being sick and tired of the nightlife. Where did today's black lesbian go when she was looking for an upscale party?

We got to thinking... What if we all got together and made our OWN party? Not just the people at this table but ALL of US. The women of this community that had outgrown the playgrounds of our past. What would be possible?

Get-togethers, happy hours, white parties, open mics, weekend getaways, anything we wanted...

WE whisper about it, WE complain about it, WE debate about it. Now it's time for US to be about it.

We created this organization to find out who WE are and where WE are so WE can all get together and become an US.
