WomenROCK / Sam Flot Oh9
Fully Aware
Fully feeling each feeling and
The power of female energy
Operating outside the tradition
Of a Male Frame of Reference
Distinction delivers
The instinct of a singer
Under the guiding influence
Of emotions in a physical world
Each strand alone adds up to the whole
Women Rock!
Women Roll!
Women rock out on guitars and pianos
Women rock out on violins and cellos
Women rock the San Francisco night
They play they sing
They do sound, they do lights
Each strand alone adds up to the whole
Women rock!
Women roll!
Tonight here in the Great American Music Hall
Each of these women will answer the call
WomenROCK
, a Bay Area music, art and activist collective, was formed with a vision to support female musicians and to use their music to bring awareness to charitable causes while reaching the listener in a way that entertains and educates.
WomenROCK
was formed in January 2006 just blocks from Haight-Ashbury. Like the revolutionary neighborhood suggests, WomenROCK brings together female musicians to collaborate in a male-dominated playing field. By joining forces, members of WomenROCK have produced eight professional, multi-performer events generating $5,000 dollars to benefit local community-based non-profits. Additionally, a monthly showcase of singer-songwriters continues to be held at Bazaar Cafe. And due to networking within the group, soloists have formed bands and a whole new band went from thought to first rehearsal in a week!
Follow along and learn how you can join in the cause, attend WomenROCK events, or collaborate on stage!
WomenROCK
is proud to present the monthly acoustic showcase at the Bazaar Cafe in San Francisco. We take over this friendly little cafe the third Wednesday of every month. Please get in touch if you'd like to perform. The rules are: absolutely no cover songs, and no amplification. There's a piano, a supportive, listening crowd, great food & drink (on the house for performers), and a tip jar. They also have a fantastic open mic every Thursday. Check it out at

Would you send a kiss to save the world To keep someone, maybe you, from dying in it?
Would you send a kiss To save your favorite girl?
What would you kiss that you would put on this list?
We all think we know what we are fighting for Until something hurts us Then generations later Still asking ourselves Was it worth it Seem to go through the same thing We can wake up from a bad dream With screams Or when we reach for a kiss For that we open our eyes And say I want more of this And we go through that day Longing for that kiss Could you imagine saving the world With a simple kiss list?
I kiss my pen And it bleeds So that maybe We wont be leaves Blown away In a win-less storm
I kiss my friend's bliss And they say they love me Year after year of this Loyalty Inspired by spirit kiss
Would you send a kiss to save your favorite video game?
You name What would make you aim your lips And send a kiss
Hendrix kissed the sky Would you kiss the child in you You hide the cries And truly say I'll be OK Today I'll make myself my own baby And kiss me bliss 'Til no pain can stay
And once I'm entrenched In the practice of this I'll see clearly What I love And put that on my kiss list
I once blew a kiss to hate And watched hate become confused And wait
Strange day. After watching a documentary about streakers suffering from over exposure, I took a nap. It was a short one. I woke up a midget. At first I was freaking out, jumping around, trying to reach the wall phone. It tired me out. So I sat on a foot stool and placed my face in my hands wondering why this had happened to me. In the middle of self-pitying I started noticing how much fun it was to kick and swing my feet. I was smiling again, and found myself running through the house at full speed... wrestling with my now giant puppy. Oh, the joy! I hadn't had so much fun in years! We laughed and played and laughed until we both fell asleep exhausted on the living room floor. Then I woke up and ruined the whole damned thing.
Come check out the WomenRock collective show at Bazaar Cafe this Wed. 4/15/09, 7-10pm. You’ll get to hear: Marianne Barlow, Alice Tong, Aoede, Erin Brazil, and Bernadette!
