Alex Curtis is a smooth yet fiery guitarist who has been playing and writing music for over 20 years. Besides playing the guitar, he also enjoys a variety of instruments such as: bass, piano, mandolin, harmonica, didgeridoo, drums and percussion. For the past 15 years, Alex has performed throughout California and parts of Oregon; playing in jazz combos, rock bands, blues bands, jam bands, funk bands, percussion ensembles and reggae groups.
Before making any serious music, Alex was making various noises in his garage where it was ok to sound bad yet rock out. The teenage garage band years were filled by playing with the groups Gillotine and Window Pain. Many a memorable musical experience was had learning all about how NOT to play, sounding bad but having the best time doing it!!!
Between 2002 and 2005, Alex worked in several different projects; such as the Venice, California based jam-band, the Rebel Soul Band. His slick leads and grooving rhythm guitar work is featured on the first two RSB discs. Alex was also the rhythm guitarist for Baba-Kazah, the roots, reggae band from Los Angeles, CA. Another project was Elevator, which revolved around recording different guitar sounds and colors to blend with the synth-driven escapades of Elevator’s music. Alex also played with the dynamic group Textuur, which blended blues, funk and rock into a musical tapestry.
From 2006 to 2008, Alex performed with the Marci Curtis Band. Vocalist Marci Curtis, recently titled "The New Voice of Salem", is an extremely talented musician who writes her own brand of blues/jazz/pop music. Also, from
2006 to 2007, Alex has played electric guitar with the Keizer Community Stage Band. This big-band plays mostly jazz standards and some traditional and contemporary songs.
2009 finds Alex working with the funk outfit know as The Skunky Bunch, playing mostly rhythm guitar and singing some lead and backing vocals. This tight rhythmic dynamo is an ideal band to jam along with and is an open canvas
for some of Alex's new musical compositions. Alex can also be found in and around Salem performing at various open jams and open mic nights, getting out into the local music community.
He is currently working on the singer/sonwriter part of his multiple-musical-personality. Stay tuned for all new music to become available from this myspace page.
Alex also offers music lessons when time permits. All lessons are tailored to each person's skill level and will focus on what you need to progress to the next stage in your musical development. He can give you the tools you need to play music like you have always wanted.

Alex, you guitar touch seems effortless. I especially dig WHA TEV and could see myself doing a spoken word bit like in my 'Mediocre Smokers'. It's very psych.
Always good to hear from you my friend. We ended up putting our Oregon tour on the back burner for now, and concentrated on putting a tour together in Key West for my sister's wedding. Hopefully we can still make it happen by the end of summer. Peace.
