A native of South Korea, Jin has spent nearly ten years in India undergoing training in not one, but two Indian classical art forms. She learnt Kathak (Lucknow Gharana) from Shreemati Shubha Desai (student of Padmabhushan Birju Maharaj) and continues to learn tabla under guidance of Pandit Divyang Vakil. As a result of her deep understanding of music and dance, Jin is capable of presenting the various shades of Kathak and effectively communicated the beauty of the dance form even to those who are new to the art.
Working with leading Kathak choreographers, including Shreemati Kumudini Lakhia, Shreemati Saswati Sen and Maulik Shah, Jin has performed all over India in festivals such as the Delhi Shrinagar Dance Festival, the Jaipur Udayshankar Festival and the Kolkata Dance Festival amongst others. As a soloist, she has performed in major cities of India, Europe and South Korea. Jin now works as a freelance Kathak dancer in addition to teaching Kathak and tabla. Her solo repertoire includes powerful nritya (pure dance), items based on abhinaya and natya (expressive movements) and contemporary Kathak pieces.
In addition to dancing and playing tabla around the world, Jin has added to the proliferation of knowledge about Indian classical music by being the first Korean writer to produce a tabla textbook.
