Woodkerne has been performing around the Pioneer Valley Since the band's inception in 1987.
Although Woodkerne can be as traditional sounding as any Celtic band, the band’s repertoire is extremely varied, laced with Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English compositions and songs from tradition.
Woodkerne was formed from the ranks of the top folk musicians in New England, bringing together musicians such as Adam R. Sweet, Jim Bunting, John Rough and Andrew Wiener each with a musical background steeped in Celtic music stylings.
All band members are on-call session musicians in constant demand by the Pioneer Valley's mainstream folk and world music ensembles; yet all the while, Woodkernes recordings have virtually defined the "Irish-American" sound. These gifted musicians have joined together under a name that salutes the Pioneer Valley, creating an all-American sound. Woodkerne's talents have been celebrated, literally, around the state, but the band’s appeal is as basic as a small-town pub.
