Officially released in January of 2009, "woodland telegraph sings Revival Hymns" is an eleven song journey through historical moments and spiritual revelation in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. Mixed and produced by Mike Cashin at the Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, Revival Hymns is an atmospheric concept record that travels from the foothills of Alberta and into the Kananaskis Valley, introducing you to historic stories that have never been put to music in a non-traditional form.
Steeped in lapsteel guitar, old time fiddle and banjo, Matthew Lovegrove's warm voice leads us into mountains, matching the feeling of awe we all get when we enter such a humbling landscape.
Anthemic Canadian folk music for people who are ready to hear a new chapter of roots music in this country, or any other for that matter.
Packaged in a hand-sewn cardboard case along with an origami/topographical map insert, the album is available through Paypal below for $16 dollars shipped anywhere in North America.

"...fresh and startling. Imagine dark-grass band Elliott Brood being kidnapped and brainwashed to join forces with The Polyphonic Spree, and you get an idea of the vibe: earthy and mournfull merges with the passionate, ecstatic, almost orchestral." ."" Roch Parisien, CBC Folk/Roots
"Vancouver’s Matthew Lovegrove writes songs that are Canadian in the way that, say, Blue Rodeo’s “5 Days in May” or The Tragically Hip’s “Locked in the Trunk of a Car” are Canadian, which is to say you’ll twig to a certain something in the music long before you get to the lyric about the Kananaskis River. On either level, this is a particularly potent exploration of forging connection out of isolation."" - John Sakomoto, Toronto Star
"“Not as religious as the album title implies but as serenely bucolic. It is like a view of the great outdoors from a forest ranger tower, there is that much scope and fresh air in writer Matthew Lovegrove’s evocation of understated folk”." -Tom Harrison, BC Province
"woodland telegraph have a very interesting approach to getting their songs across [live]-extremely entertaining..."Longevity John, Musical and Curatorial guru of CBC's Top 20 Canadian Venue The Duncan Garage and Showroom
Check it out! I wrote a free book on music production! It's for total beginners, but if you aren't new to music production, maybe you'll still learn something... at least you can send it to your friends who always want to ask you a billion questions about music production! It's totally free too; my goal with this is to accumulate as many BFF's as possible.
How are things Matt? New demos done yet? I'm stoked about getting together and just hangin' while doing the next recording! Still on board with a week in a cabin or something?
Awesome, working class and natural history are big themes of our show...so your album is very interesting to me for sure. I'd love to get a copy and it would get played! I generally run thematic shows which makes for better radio...so when bands have songs ABOUT something it's waaaay easier to find a week to put them on. LIsten in tomorrow, it's the anti-christian christmas special.
DO you need a pedal steel guitar player? I play all manner of instruments if you ever need, bass, drums, or tele! It's all in the living room here. Talk soon..joe

Hey man, I made it to Quesnel. I highly recommend a trip to Lytton and the Stein Mountain Organic Farm. You can volunteer there, and it rules. Keep fighting the beast(s), on the Gran Isle and wherever else. I got new songs already for the upcoming album. Peace bro.
Maaaan....the mountain lake is way out there we will need a boat and some water wings and some rocket boosters. But I know Bertha will be there...it would be good to meet her. I like your new picture by the way...you're at church! Haha...I don't think I've changed my picture once since I've had this....too complicated....
Woodland Telegraph, hey. I like your image...it reminds me of a projection screen that I played with one time... Umm..where's your new songs? I want to listen to them! :) YOu rock!!
Hey, have you listened to "The Acorn"? They're a band on my favorites. They're pretty fun. Most of the bands on my favorites are right up there!! (Just so you know!) :)
