Producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist Woodrow Wilson Jackson III had an eclectic upbringing. Careening from a holy roller high school, then baptized a Mormon and quickly shipped off for an ill-advised one day stint in the US Navy Military Jazz Band led to very diverse musical influences.
Growing up in Richmond, Virginia and York, Pennsylvania Woody was a member of the band that became “Live” while still in high school and soon after that began playing with the indie favorites “The Useless Playboys.” He then joined the band “The Friends of Dean Martinez” and began touring the country. The band signed with Sub Pop and Jackson settled in Los Angeles.
Jackson began collaborating with a number of different artists - Eleni Mandel, Money Mark, Petra Haden, and Danny Frankel were some early and pivotal relationships as he established himself in the LA music scene. He toured with Vincent Gallo and upon returning began working with David Holmes, playing on the Oceans 12 soundtrack and the subsequent score for the sequel. In the last few years he has recorded on numerous other film scores and commercials. Recently he produced a song on Jason Schwartzman’s Coconut Records album NIGHTTIMING.
Along with being a gifted musician, Woody has also made a name for himself in the high octane sub-culture of obscure musical gear online ebay auctions. Swooping in to nab a sweet U-47 microphone or a dusty old Optigan is hard work but no one is better cut out for it than Jackson. Dedicating his late nights after putting his hard working wife to sleep, he pores over the internet searching for forgotten Guitorgan's and Chamberlin's – ready and willing to refurbish them and bring them back to life.
This October marks the release of the album “Ten Years” which he recorded with Petra Haden. They will be performing at Largo on October 16th to celebrate the release.
