This is a very small and unique 24 hour music festival on 32 tree covered acres in the Texas Hill Country. It is not commercial in any way, it's just for fun. Ours and yours. There is no admission cost and the food is communal, meaning we eat what everybody brings. Great music, lots of food; a great time for those relaxed enough to appreciate a fine day out in the country. It is all word of mouth - if you and your family are peaceful souls, you are welcome. Kids and dogs as long as neither bite and fight are welcome. Please bring a covered dish to help feed everybody - this is a singer/songwriter event but also very much a potluck bar-b-que dinner and nature experience. Setting up little campsites, stringing hammocks and playing guitars out in the woods is pretty hard to beat. Try to get here by early Saturday afternoon and yes you can drive out on Saturday night but please try to camp over - that is part of what makes this thing unique. If you are lucky enough to be able to make the time to get out here you will never forget it.

It was truly great. Lots of great talent, lots of food, lots of fun. We had a big crowd, felt to me just about the perfect number of people. The projection screens, the giganormus BBQ pit, the new stage setup: the Whipple Woodzie puts the pic in nic. Song circles went past 4:00 a.m., The Swindles, The Lavens, Thoze Guys, Stephen Inglis... the music all day was great. Actually Stephen Ingles was PHENOMENAL!! Casey did a great job on the stage.

Renee in the sunglasses (who drove in from Silver City, New Mexico), Ann/Mom (in the red hair) Grace standing and Deirdre... and their friends around them.
Poppy Lungstuffing from Super Happy Funland in Houston. Lots of us, including me, are major fans of hers and I'm always honored that she comes to play every year. She and Dad played ukes together for a long time out in the woods.
Lots of people are just really, really, really into the spirit of The Woodzie and Robyn is one. It's not just from a handful of organizers, it's the energy from hundreds of people that The Woodzie runs on. Everybody adds their excitement to the air, and everybody's is a little different. Besides the music and friendship and food etc.... she totally gets that part of it is the nature experience. You just feel alive out in the raw Hill Country.

You RSVPed that you'll be attending this year's Woodzie. AWESOME! Looking forward to us all spending the first weekend of May together.
We've just started this website: http://whippleworld.com/woodzie2009/ so please visit it - make comments, ask questions. There will be updates at that site just about every day about performers, special events, ideas, advice etc.
We don't advertise the Woodzie, it isn't a public event it's more like it's based on a max of a few degrees of separation between friends. Meaning our friends passing the word to their family and friends and encouraging them to come. It's worked for five years; we've been able to walk up to anybody and ask how they were invited and we would know the people. It's cool, we're really proud of how it's worked. But each year is a new year and we have to get those invites pulsing out there for it to happen. We could use your help with that. It's 23 days away so now is the time to start.
The idea is that if you are invited you can invite people you know who are cool. If you find another family you know would completely understand this thing and they come and have a great time that makes it all work. People come to The Woodzie and wonder where this really cool vibe comes from... it's from that process. Everybody there has been invited because somebody knew they had the right spirit for it.
A really great thing that some people do is get a couple of families to come together and setup their picnic spots next to each other and have a get together within the over all get together. There is so much room, this is perfect for that. Hell, have a family reunion on us! There is only one main motivation for The Woodzie... fun. Yours and ours and as much of it as we can stuff into 24 hours.

As you know it’s all free but food is a HUGE part of everybody’s contribution. Our rule is for everybody to bring something delicious and lots of it to share. Start planning something amazing to bring, as if you were serious about an entry in the County Fair. :) We have a 20′ tent with two long food tables. About 300 people come all bringing food so you (and I) are going to eat like kings all day. There may be several roasted wild javelinas this year. Buttermilk pie and Texas deer meat chili and homemade bread and corn pudding casserole - just the magic stuff that you want to watch people eat to see their reaction. That’s the goal of the Woodzie potluck food spread. To make that happen we have to all make special effort. That’s your admission charge to The Woodzie and it pays off for everybody.
If you know musicians who might want to play one of the two stages, have them contact us now. Otherwise lots of opportunities to play just under the trees.
Start making your plans to get the most out of this event. Get your kids and your friends excited about it and bring them all!

We're excited to finally get our MySpace privileges back. We've been able to update our page again! It features Brooks Williams, a very cool (as in slick, effortless, natural) guitar player. Check him out. And of course email us if you want info on his SA concert.

We're thrilled to host award winning songwriter,Drew Nelson, from Michigan, this weekend, 12/6. Although Drew has played the Kerrville Folk Festival a few times and in Austin and Dallas, this will be his first gig in SA. Please help us welcome him. Let me know if you want more info.
