We are about changing the world! Can we do that? Yes we can, one life at a time! Consider this. Together we can touch one life, then another and it could make a difference. This is not just about Autism. It includes all who have special needs. By raising the Awareness of Autism, we raise the awareness of other problems such as Epilepsy, Attention Deficient Syndrome, Diabetes, Cancer, Aspergers Syndrome, mental retardation and a host of other issues that need attention.
Everyone in a friends group is not included because they want to beat the Drum of a Great Purpose. They may not even know anyone with a special need, but their presence is like a light shining in the darkness. Keep them there. Those who have children with Autism and other issues are finding others who have similar situations. So even without knowing it, a purpose may be added to someone's life and they may not even be aware of it just because they are on a friend list.
We may never meet in person, but wouldn't it be great to someday see a major break thru with Autism and other special needs issues and realize you were a part of making it happen. We may never discover anything, but those in the trenches of research need our support and concern because we are the points of light shining in the darkness when combined as one voice can be movers and shakers for great causes.
THE LEGEND OF WOOFIE BONES
(
Copyright 1983 by
Harvey Ackerman, Jr.)
Frozen and starved, he was lost in the snow,
But later was found by one we all know.
A red blanket was used to fashion a bed,
And then there was made a collar of red.
Twelve birthstones were placed on the collar in gold,
And soon the limp puppy was safe from the cold.
A stone for each month so the puppy would know,
Every child that is born for a birthstone would glow.
The love of small children all over the world,
Makes him a friend to each whether boy or girl.
Now, from twilight to sunrise, in cities and towns,
The puppy moves quickly to make all his rounds.
For those not yet twelve, he knows all their names,
On their birthday, he visits and joins in their games.
From party to party with great swiftness he speeds,
As he moves unnoticed to do his good deeds.
When bedtime is near, and it's time for some sleep,
Put a bow by the pillow for the puppy to keep.
Be sure that you leave him a big slice of cake,
And both will be gone before you awake.
While all are asleep and it's late in the night,
With a splatter of color and flickers of light,
He'll whisper to you in soft, loving tones,
Happy Birthday, from your friend, Woofie Bones.

Autism
Awareness
is an important issue...
Autism needs all the cheerleaders and fans in the stands we can muster. The cause must be found. Now, it's 1 in 10,000, 1 in 5,000 , 1 in 1,000, 1 in 500,1 in 166, 1 in 150. Where will we be when it's every child and the world is still in denial?
Will this camp continue to operate to provide a camp experience for children who have special health care needs? If this camp closes, it should send a message to parents of special needs children not only in South Carolina, but everywhere. You should be concerned about politicians that can talk the walk, but stumble when it comes to the differently-abled. Camp Burnt Gin has served thousands of children since 1945.
Our Government at all levels is taking us down the tubes and we either don't care or don't care to know. This is such an important issue to special needs kids that everyone in a position to reach out to few or to many needs to help. It is clear leadership in South Carolina as well as in Washington and other states are making decisions that are going to affect children and grandchildren for several generations. Debt is being created that may never be repaid, that can easily bankrupt a government and change forever future generations way of life. Are the right decisions being made? Are these decisions out of concern for South Carolina or the Nation or out of self-interest? One hundred years from now it is not going to matter whether you were a democrat or a republican, whether you were to the right or the left. What will count and what will make the difference is what we leave the children.
Regardless of what we leave behind, it simply cannot be a child left out of an education, an experience, the chance of a lifetime to be treated in a way they know somebody cares. No matter what we give up, we cannot give up on the children. Our focus should not be only on the talented and the physically fit, but also on the differently-abled. That special needs child who needs support to be as much as they can be. That special needs child who may or could be your child who is denied an opportunity because government failed and as individuals we were to busy to pick up the pieces.
The question to be answered is not can you make a difference? The question to be answered is are you willing to make a difference?
Please take the information provided here and do some research on your own and take the time to make a difference for differently-abled kids who don't want to miss the CAMP BURNT GIN experience or any other experience that government may be trying to take away from them.
