WOOJam started in the bowels of Bar Me’s El Rocco live venue in Kings Cross in 2005. Presented by Holly Austin and Adriano Cappelletta, WOOJam began as an open mic night, a casual evening to have a strum, sing and “woo!” with might.
WOOJam soon became a cult hit as people jammed, sang, danced and partied every second Monday night, shaking Bar Me to its very foundations. It was a chance to be part of the underground - an opportunity for the bedroom bangers to hit the stage in front of an audience that promised to be as supportive as your mum.
From its humble beginnings, WOOJam fostered a new generation of singer-songwriters, artists and collaborations. Many of the artists who graced the WOOJam stage went on to record albums and perform around Sydney, Australia and overseas.
By the time WOOJam celebrated its second birthday, the fortnightly open mic night had become a happening, an artistic community that favoured vitality, warmth, talent and a sense of humour over cynicism and industry cool.
In 2008 at the BMMF, WOOJam presented a showcase of all-stars from the original stable. This year we return to the Blue Mountains Music Festival with six acts who have each forged a place for themselves in the local music scene.
The line-up includes Fergus Brown, Lauren Horton & the clockworktrumpets, Sam Buckingham, Renny Field, Rubi & Jude and Mark Wilkinson, all of whom play regularly throughout Australia and have recorded and released albums.
