BONNIE KANE (saxophone, flute, electronics)
is a NYC based improviser, bandleader, and pioneer in extended saxophone and flute technique with electronics. Her dedication to improvisation was formed by an unusually early and constant exposure to Sun Ra, blessings from June Tyson, a background of equal parts: Hendrix, Ayler and Zappa - and studies with Sonny Simmons, Paul McCandless, Glenn Moore, Ralph Towner (Oregon), and Jon Raskin (ROVA Saxophone Quartet). A stint in the original Club Foot Orchestra (with Snakefinger (The Residents) and Eric Drew Feldman (Capt Beefheart), introduced her to electronic processing for horns, and brief study at Mills College under Anthony Braxton solidified her direction.

Bonnie has been touring internationally and recording since the late 1980's. Her band projects have been W.O.O., W.O.O. Revelator, World of Tomorrow and D-I.S.K. Her major duo projects have been with Ernesto Diaz-Infante, and Jeffrey Hayden Shurdut. Within NYC, she has performed at The Knitting Factory, CBGB's, ABC No Rio, The Brecht Forum, The Bowery Poetry Club, and other venues. She has opened for both Nik Turner and Hawkwind at major festivals and performed with Paul Winter, Daniel Carter, Sabir Mateen, Dee Popp, 99Hooker, and Tatsuya Nakatani, along with a long list of musicians in her bands.

There are over 30 releases to Bonnie Kane's credit. Recordings of these groups have been released on the Sachimay Interventions, No Labels, Pax Recordings, Evolving Ear, Sweetstuff Media, Bottomfeeder, and Funky Mushroom labels, and have received radio play and press acclaim worldwide. Also in demand as a soloist, she has recorded with John Spencer Blues Explosion, The Brian Wilson Shock Treatment, Friends of Mescalito, Thundering Lizards, and Casey Scott.

RAY SAGE (aka RACE AGE - drums)
Dubbed “the unending force”, Ray Sage rolls the drums like thick clouds moving fast across the sky - with shadows and wisps passing across the land, influencing the color of everything, There are periods of delicate hardcore rhythmic calms that transform into an intricate momentum of sheer power that rock every molecule. The astounded audience is often initially left in a state of stunned silence which rapidly gives way to wild cheers.

The son of a drummer, Ray has continued the family trade mesmerizing audiences throughout the US, Japan and Europe. By way of Detroit, Seattle and Japan, he came to NYC during the early 1980’s and joined the legendary wild noise rock punkparty band outfit, the Reverb Motherfuckers, who defined the extremes of what a live NYC show could and should be. He was also active with Dogbowl and King Missile, making several with recordings on the Shimmy Disc label, and has toured and recorded with Ron Anderson in various projects, including PAK. His current recording partners include: Burton Greene, Brian Groder, Borah Bergman, William Parker, Adam Lane, Joe McPhee, and Nobu Stowe. Since 1990 he has played with Bonnie Kane in the bands: W.O.O., W.O.O.REVELATOR, W.O.O.:Mambo Mantis, and D-I.S.K.

BLAISE SIWULA (saxophones)
Traveling the gray area of composer and improvisor, the sweet tones of Blaise Siwula’s horns have graced many stage and recordings. He has worked with Cecil Taylor, Tan Dun, William Parker, Joseph Daly, Donald Miller, Peter Kowald, John Fischer, Vincent Chancey, Newman Taylor Baker, John Voigt, Matthew Paris, Adam Lane and Joseph Scianni.

A visual artist and multiinstrumentalist, Blaise arrived in NYC via Detroit and Europe in1989 and became actively involved with the NYC Scene. He is the founder and director of the C.O.M.A. series at ABC No-Rio, NYC, presenting adventurous music on a weekly basis. Blaise has toured all over Europe, the U.S., and Korea and has release numerous recordings.

CHRIS WELCOME (electric slide guitar)
Chris Welcome is a guitarist and cellist living in Brooklyn. He has performed with musicians such as Daniel Carter, Jack Wright, Lisle Ellis, Herb Robertson, and many others. He has received positive reviews in Cadence Magazine, All About Jazz, and from WNUR radio. In addition to performing regularly in New York, Welcome has toured the East Coast several times with Blaise Siwula and others and has toured the U.S. with the noise/rock/jazz group Mothguts.

   About Mambo Mantis
WHAT ROCK SHOULD HAVE BEEN IF IT COULD...
WHAT JAZZ COULD BE IF IT WOULD...

Daring, challenging, explosive, intricate, intense, the current manifestation of the W.O.O. energy as Mambo Mantis is for the serious and brave audio explorer. It's a journey into the details of the senses, the edges of sounds, right down to the molecular level. The soul pours out through the sound to blend with the universal spirit. The mind opens and delightfully expands for those who are willing.

“...garage rock aesthetic and gritty sensibility... freewheeling fractures of modulated feedback and distortions...”
- SIGNAL TO NOISE MAGAZINE

"...stands outside of any conventional definition...the adventurous music lover will be challenged and rewarded"
- Terrell Holmes, All About Jazz - New York

There are plenty of musicians that will perform and record well practiced and rehearsed music - that have been playing the same songs for years.
I give you something else.
I’m interested in what a musician can bring to the moment of creation.
–– BONNIE KANE

Not for the timid.

Hey

I just wanted to let you know I have reached 2000 friends ....so let this be a thank you for being one of them and doing what all good friends do by NOT caring.

anyway, Ive been really into slam poetry and have been performing around NYC at such events.

Heres a sample of something i might do at a slam:

" i then go into this coffeehouse and strike up a conversation
with this other writer about why men always have to do the hunting for women.
he takes out this half empty bottle and this half empty cup and says
"the bottle is the man and the cup is the woman
and the liquid inside is their hearts.
now their hearts are not gonna be complete until they find each other"
and then he asks me how i would go about doing that.

so i told him that i would pour the bottle into the cup.
he says "why not the other way around?"
and i reply "less chance of a spill" and he says "exactly......
see when a woman pours her heart into a man it just gets broken
and most of it spills on the floor, but when a man pours his heart
into the woman, the woman accepts ALL of him."

stay tuned to my blog section for more.
