About me:
Wordsmiths Books was conceived in the late part of 2006, began operation as an online and author-events capacity in January of 2007, and opened the doors of its brick-and-mortar (actually marble) retail bookstore on June 15, 2007. With 3,000 square feet of books (and an inventory carrying all but children's books, as that niche is served to a perfect capacity by the neighboring Little Shop Of Stories), a cafe, stage area for author events, film showings, musical events and more, and a reading room/art gallery, Wordsmiths Books is where you want to shop AND spend the day. BUT WAIT: we also have free on-site parking and free wi-fi. Also: find us on twitter and we're on AIM. add WORDSMITHSBOOKS to your buddy list.
Who I'd like to meet:

Latest review for DIVERTING THE BUDDHA (The Skewering of Democracy)

"DIVERTING THE BUDDHA is an ambitious novel that delivers through a vivid portrayal of the treachery and deceit that emerged during the catastrophic Vietnam War. Bob Swartzel wastes little time in immersing his readers in a chaotic world where poor innocent people are caught between a corrupt Vietnamese leadership, as well as the self-interest of a few profiteers and an American foreign policy gone amok. Among the many achievements of this novel is Swartzel’s ability to provide his readers with a realistic sense of the historical setting the characters inhabit. It also vividly captures the chaotic theater of war where we witness a gritty epoch of guns, politics, treachery and economic self-interest.

No doubt there are many novels pertaining to the Vietnam War, however, this one stands out as an unforgettable tale at its most emotional and painful with its multiple perspectives pertaining to the politics and history recounted in human terms.

Highly recommended, concludes review of DIVERTING THE BUDDHA, the novel about the trashing of democracy by America’s political elites

“Bob Swartzel writes with authority about military and corporate matters and his description of the Buddhist temples is excellent. By the middle of the book, the reader is sucked into this story like the boots of the soldiers who must patrol constantly watching for the enemy and never trusting anyone. Because of this authenticity, the reader is plunged deeply into the destructive atmosphere that was Vietnam. We feel the mud and smell the blood of the dead bodies.

I highly recommend this book for all people who would like to know the real story of the war in Vietnam. It truly shows the effect that a war can have on any country and on its institutions.”
