Words of Farewell were founded in early spring 2007, made up of the remains of a former rock band called Deviance and some acquaintances of the main songwriters and core of the band - Phillipp Olivier (lead guitar) and Erik Gaßmus (lead guitar). After writing several songs which lead to the disbanding of their former band due to musical differences, they looked for some metalheads who were willing and able to play the songs and form a band.

After a few weeks in time a Melodic Death Metal band was formed, completed by Nils Urginus (rhythm guitar), Leo Wichmann (synth), Benedikt Goralski (drums) and Alexander Otto (vocals). They rehearsed for the first time in january 2007 - a cover song, the only one throughout the yet short band history. Only four months later they headed out to a nearby studio, recording a short 7 Track EP to be able to present their works to the local metal scene, although it would still take them about a year to actually release it.
While the songs were playing on their MySpace, new material was written and practiced; still, there was no gig in sight. During summer 2007 a new drummer had to be found as replacement for Benn Goralski who left the band due to personal and musical differences concerning the genre the band headed towards at that time, getting more and more progressive and dynamic. Felix Greiff does now supply the band with the necessary polyrhythmic backbone.
One problem remained: the band was still in search of a bassist. Thus and for the reason he had nothing to do during the long solos of their songs, vocalist Alex took over the duty. After almost one and a half years the band played their first 2 concerts at the band contest of a local venue, winning the first price by audience decision, whilst finally being able to release their Demo EP after a long year of waiting.

As of now, performing more often and recording a couple of new songs are the goals for the near future - their skills have grown substantially since the first recordings, as well as their eager to take their metal onto the next level. The music, which is unique due to it’s focus on epic passages and progressive, melodic elements instead of hardcore influences, is fairly seldom to be found and might be a pleasant punch in the face for everyone trying to find something different from the norm and a preference on fast paced melodies and profound lyrics.

'Ashes of the coming Dawn' was recorded in April 2007 but due to various reasons and the line-up changes mentioned above, the release has been delayed a couple of times. Finally though, everything is finished and you are now able to buy the EP.

"From Now On..." was recorded in 2008 as a Promo for all those who have not yet heard from WoF, as well as for those who are keen to see how the band and music are developing. The four tracks were picked to clearify that identification with one certain style/genre is simply not possible. Just give them a listen and find out how you'd define it yourself.
Meanwhile, plans for new material and concerts in 2009 will be prepared!
