   About WORD UPRISING
.. ..

MAXIMUM ROCK N' ROLL. That's how Legendary Nashville Elliston Square Club owner Bruce Fitzpatrick once described WORD UPRISING. Formed in 1989, WORD UPRISING formed when Middle Tennessee State University students Fred Greene & Bill McLaurine met FAITH LIKE GUILLOTINE drummer Mark Beasley. Former JET BLACK FACTORY bassist Dave Jones filled out the group. The sound quickly became a musical hybrid between Thin Lizzy/Sabbath/Gang of Four. The aim being ALTERNATIVE POWER ROCK. Some of the first shows were with label artists Winter Hours, Mercyland, Elvis Hitler and culminating with a July 1989 show with The Goo Goo Dolls. The first recording session took place in June 1989 at the historic Woodland Sound Studios in East Nashville engineered by Tom Oates. ONE THE FAST WAY and PEOPLE were the first songs released to Vanderbilt's 91 Rock. Both becoming 2 of the most played local songs of 1989. More recording took place at Sound Vortex with Robb Earls as engineer. PATTY HEARST and BASE BENDER soon became local hits.

:P
This music still makes me wanna do bedroom acrobatics...I think it rivals anything coming out of the west at the time...so ahead of it's time. So ahead of Nashville...
And so ahead of all the passion-less whiny pap coming out now.
Any one know of any local bands like anything we had back then out right now? Where can I go to see good music? What are their names?
*sigh*

And what was the name of that band...had a lead singer looked just like Kurt and he had a girlfiend that looked just like Courtney, and they had a tiny little baby they'd bring to elliston with a tie-dye onesie (keep in mind this was before there was a Kurt and Courtney in public consciousness)...I think their drummer was a super tall guy with long black hair - they rocked, too.

OMFG!! My world is complete. I have tried to tell people for years about some of these songs! Like a stroll down Elliston dodging addicts or down 2nd dodging streetwalkers. Give me time, I may be able to dig out my t-shirt from the archives.
