About me:

First, I'd like to welcome you to my page. Now for some basic information: I'm doing my best to become a professional writer in the entertainment industry. I'm making decent headway, but I'm not quite where I want to be yet. In the meantime, I work my day job as a professional copywriter, while freelancing at night as an entertainment journalist. When I find the time, I chronicle my experiences on my personal site.

I run a Web site called Working Author, which showcases my writing and also shares my journey to becoming an industry screenwriter. Stop by when you have a chance and leave me a comment. I've got a ton of great stuff to read, like Non-Fiction, Fiction, Poetry and more. If nothing else, reading my site is a great way to pass the time if you're standing in line, waiting for water to boil, having your car worked on or whatever.

I'm also a contributing editor for the entertainment industry magazine Buzzine. I handle talent interviews, press junkets, film reviews, video game reviews, event coverage and basically anything else that needs writing. By all means, swing by and show some support. We're up and coming and you may be seeing more of us sooner than you think.

I hope you'll stick around and read some of my writing to get to know me, because I'm always interested in getting to know everyone. Thanks for stopping by.

Who I'd like to meet:

I'm interested in networking with as many professional and aspiring writers, filmmakers and creative people as possible. There are a lot of talented people out there and I think we can all help each other realize our career goals.

Also, if you are an established industry professional, like a credited actor, director, etc., drop me a line and tell me about your upcoming projects. It might be a good fit for Buzzine and I'd love to interview you.

Interests

  • General

My first passion is writing. I love telling stories and describing moments and feelings in creative, original ways. I love affecting people. As such, many of my pet peeves revolve around storytelling, like people who interrupt, poor listeners or people who hijack the story.

Her name is Shubhi Singh and she's the most beautiful girl I've ever met. Here's our short-lived story.
Before I was a writer, I was an artist. As a child growing up in the 80's when kidnapping was all the rage, I didn't leave the house much. So I was forced to keep myself amused. I was still too young to appreciate video games (Atari 2600 then) and getting bored of my toys, I turned to my imagination and started doodling. At age three, I didn't do much more than scribble, but I was tenacious and quickly moved on to stick figures, adding hair, ears, fingers and rollerskates. You know, all of the things you find on real people. Throughout grade school I just kept at it, always trying to produce something more realistic. I think this drawing to the right is pretty good. Unfortunately, I didn't progress much farther than graphite. I think I worked (and sometimes still work) in graphite because of how exact I could be with it, which is probably why I write.

The English language has so much nuance and so many words that say the same thing, but different enough to convey a slightly different feeling that it's easy to nudge the reader this way or that, much like nudging a pencil line in place with an eraser.

    I also enjoy:
    • Women
    • Fine Dining
    • Good Movies
    • Smoking
    • Rainy Days
    • Smoking on Rainy Days
  • Music

I'm a jazz and big band lover at heart. I can listen to Cab Calloway and Harry Connick Jr. any day. I enjoy swing (wish I could swing dance, but got no rhythm) and can't help but play air-guitar when I hear 80's rock. It makes me sad that the kids these days will grow up never knowing what a guitar-solo is or that rock vocalists were required to have good voices at one time.

I'm currently trying to expand my musical horizons, delving into electronica and such. Just started listening to Daft Punk and I'm pretty addicted. If you have any suggestions for quality music, new and old, don't hesitate to let me know about it.
  • Movies

Like most people, I love movies. For an hour and half (or more), I get to escape the mundaneness of my life and be part of something special. If I could, I'd be a screenwriter by trade. As much as I want to believe that becoming one is within my power alone, I get the feeling that it's going to take the involvement of a lot more people than just me, namely, a literary agent and a producer daring enough to produce a first-time screenwriter.

I definitely don't like The Notebook. Here's why.
  • Television

I'm one of those rare cases that doesn't watch TV. I have a TV, but no service for it and I don't feel inclined to buy rabbit ears for it either. That's not to say that I don't waste time doing other things, however, I think I'm going to have to get back into watching television if only because it helps me keep up to date on what's going on in the industry.
  • Books

    Current Bathroom Book:

    The Official Boy Scout Handbook
    (Really old edition)

You know, I'm not a big reader, which is weird for a writer. That's not to say that I don't read, because I do, just not the conventional novel or magazine. Typically, I'll read DIY books like anything related to Web development or weight control. I'll also occasionally flip through periodicals related to my day job, but that can be pretty dry.
  • Heroes

    Darius Fewlass

I met him on my trip to NYC in 2005. We were standing on a corner where cabbies were hotly contested, being few and far between. When we were finally able to flag one down, it stopped equidistant from us and a couple also waiting for a taxi. As our groups charged forward, it was Darius who shouldered his way in front of the enemy, scoffing, "Not a chance!" behind him as we piled in. The shocked indignation on her face made me realize that I wanted to be Darius.
