On fiddle is Carol Dawson. A professional musician all her working life, her range and playing style is immense; she can effortlessly play traditional folk, swing Grappelli-like jazz or perform Classical pieces to perfection. Prior to Workshy Profits, Carol was a musician in residence with the group Prism, where, according to The Guardian, she "..raised the roof with a jig.." at Cambridge Folk Festival.
On guitars is Steve Le Voguer. A guitarist for all seasons, Steve can play just about anything; Heavy Metal, cheesy rock, Manouche Jazz, funk, Flamenco, Classical, African, Latin American, Blues...you name it, he can probably play it! Steve sites his heroes as Eddie Van Halen, Wes Montgomery, Paco de Lucia, Django Reinhardt, Charlie Byrd and Loose Tubes. In Workshy Profits his cool jazz chords, fiery rasgueado and exciting rhythms provide exceptional accompaniment to Carol's fiddle and sensitivity to Lisa's vocals.
On vocals, whistle, bongos, bodhran, doumbek, djembe, cajon, percussion, glockenspeil (yes!) and accordion is Lisa Oliver. A graduate of The Royal College of Music, Lisa can play just about anything from samba to steel pans to piano to guitar to marimbas. Lisa provides pulsating percussion, lively whistle playing and evocative vocals that are at the heart of Workshy Profits music.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Sorry I didn't stop by for a chat t'other day - I had a lift waiting for me and lots of stupid admin stuff to get done before I left :( Hope all is going well though and that you had a wicked night! We must catch up soon?
This years festival is headlined by Billy Bragg (Friday), Seth Lakeman (Sunday) and Peatbog Faeries (Saturday) with many more top artists also performing.
Glad to have you aboard! A deceptively nautical turn of phrase, now I come to think of it; there's not the slightest whiff of the shanty about us, I assure you. Drop by anytime should you need further proof of our entirely landlocked liberalbilly credentials.... Keep it gangsta, CrackTown - two men unable to fiddle.
You were great at the Sheffield folk festival, both sets were fantastic! I was not the only one who thought this lots of people commented on it! I hope you will come and play Sheffield again. To sum it up for me it was energetic folk played by very talented folk and no mistake. all the best David
