   About World Around Records

STINK TANK™

Dudu Stinks & Man Mantis are STINK TANK™
Representing Madison, Wisconsin and Johannesburg, South Africa, STINK TANK™ is the brainchild of the NSFA's Creative Director, Laduma Nguyuza. Featuring some of the school's most accomplished scholars and backed by the flawless production of Man Mantis, STINK TANK™ strives to take the standard idea of the rap group to whole new conceptual levels.

  > Buy STINK TANK's LP Books on Tape

Thirtyseven & Dr. Quandary are ALGORHYTHMS ALGORHYTHMS

A collaborative effort between emcee Thirtyseven of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom and Boston-based producer Dr. Quandary, Algorhythms is a seamless integration of thought-provoking rhymes and lush, conceptual soundscapes.

  > Download the Algorhythms EP

HUMPASAUR JONES

Humpasaur Jones
Rapper Thirtyseven's attempt to achieve total sexual liberation for all free sentient Earth creatures. Smart, drunk, libidinous, totally irresponisble and backed by the quirky production of DJ Squid, DJ MSP and Prophis, H. Rumpus Jones provides a hiphop experience the likes of which the world has never seen.

Man Mantis MAN MANTIS

Originally hailing from Denver, Colorado, DJ and producer Man Mantis is fast becoming a staple of the local scene in Madison, Wisconsin. Certainly a force to be reckoned with, Mantis blends soulful samples with tight, finely-chopped breaks, creating an improbably nostalgic hip hop vibe.

He is currently working on an instrumental EP, follow-ups to his recent releases with dumate and STINK TANK™, and a reunion album with Misguided Thought.

LOUIS MACKEY

Louis Mackey
Born of some obscure armpit in the great state of Ohio, Louis Mackey currently prefers to straddle the Illinois/Missouri border. Boasting an uncanny balance of lyrical prowess and unabashed conceit, Lou is habitually reckless, completely insane, overtly funky, and not to be trusted.

He is currently finishing primary recording for his first album, Funky Motherfucker, Yeah: The Best of Louis Mackey.

Dr. Quandary DR. QUANDARY

Boston-based producer Dr. Quandary is space-faring scientist-adventurer with a penchant for dusty drum breaks and psychedelia records. Running the sonic gamut from hip hop to electronica, Quan blurs genre lines while creating vivid, cinematic scenes through his expert layering of samples.

  > Download Dr. Quandary's Quanny Sitar

ADAM KADMON

Adam Kadmon
Best described as a modern day Renaissance man, Adam Kadmon not only raps and produces, he also makes and modifies his own custom equipment and instruments. As a result, he creates strangely organic and warm electronic soundscapes in which the vocals are often the only form of percussion.

Kadmon's debut EP, Teslaphonics, will be available for free download Summer 2009.

S. Maharba S.MAHARBA

World Around's first international member, British producer and illustrator S.maharba of Ipswich, Suffolk brings a one-two punch of gloom-laden, atmospheric beats and stunning graphic design to the lineup.

  > Download S.maharba's She

DAIMYO!

DAIMYO!
One of Albany's great up-and-coming beatmakers, 16-year-old Daimyo! posesses a natural sensibility for production well beyond his years. Using a variety of crates stocked with the best the local Salvation Army has to offer, Daimyo! blends crisp breaks with classic loops to create mellow, soulful atmospheres.

  > Download Daimyo!'s self-titled EP

DJ Multiple Sex Partners DJ M.S.P.

Mixing two parts rap with one part performance art, DJ Multiple Sex Partners is the deranged producer alter-ego of WAR emcee Thirtyseven, crafting epic sound collages with heavily deconstructed samples and just the right sense of irony.

  > Download DJ MSP's Japan EP

MOHRER LES FRESH

Mohrer Les
A product of Springfield's dirty city streets, rapper Mohrer Les is single-handedly responsible for putting the illin' noise back into Illinois. While his primary focus is crafting compelling, raw verses, he's also a self-taught producer, an illustrator and an accomplished photographer. If you've never heard of him, just ask your girlfriend.

Look out for several consecutive releases from Les later this year.

HipGnosis

Apr 18 2009 2:28 AM

Hi WARFAM! I wanted to let you know about the new experimental hip-hop/electronic EP i just dropped on Lab Beat UK!

HipGnosis's first release on Lab Beat, a label out of Cambridge UK specializing in "deservedly fashionable, relentlessly sideways electronic music, also known as glitch hop, IDM and jungle."

The album is titled Scientific Illuminism (Is For Sissies), and is available as an exclusive Juno Download until May 8.

From the Lab Beat page:

With his deliciously clinical, woozy, bassy instrumental "Scientific Illuminism (Is For Sissies)," HipGnosis embarks in a different direction, more usually working with some remarkable vocalists, to fit their visions together.

With this outing, HipGnosis stretches into new territory, incorporating elements of glitch, drum n bass, ambient, and ever more experimental sounds. It is a continuous-mix, nonstop head-nodding, mind-blowing journey from beginning to end. Get it now exclusively through Juno Downloads. The album will be hitting iTunes and other major digital distribution points on May 8. Thanks for your support!
