The World Chess Boxing Organisation has taken the patronage of this new sport under its wing. It propagates the spread of chessboxing to all five continents.
The basic idea in chessboxing is to combine the #1 thinking sport and the #1 fighting sport into a hybrid that demands the most of its competitors – both mentally and physically.
In a chessboxing fight two opponents play alternating rounds of chess and boxing. The contest starts with a round of chess, followed by a boxing round, followed by another round of chess and so on.
A contest consists of 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess, 5 rounds of boxing. A round of chess takes 4 minutes. Each competitor has 12 minutes on the chess timer.
A round of boxing takes 3 minutes. Between the rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear.
The contest is decided by: checkmate (chess round), exceeding the time limit (chess round), retirement of an opponent (chess or boxing round), KO (boxing round), or referee decision (boxing round). If the chess game ends in a stalement, the opponent with the higher score in boxing wins. If there is an equal score, the opponent with the black pieces wins.

CHESSBOXING PREMIERE IN RUSSIA! The Siberian Chess Boxing Organisation (SCBO) in cooperation with the World Chess Boxing Organisation (WCBO) proudly present: Chessboxing goes Russia – first tournament in Krasnoyarsk on 21 February!
When Nikolay Sazhin won the world championship in the light heavyweight division in July 2008 it was obvious that Russia would play an important role in chessboxing. Sazhin returned with the belt and the vision to spread this sport in Siberia. As a consequence the SCBO was founded by the champion, Roman Lavrenov and Vladimir Makarov.
Six promising chess and boxing talents from Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk and the Republic of Khakassia will perform in the course of the Siberian championship in 3 weight classes: Viktor Tarasov vs Sergeij Ychenko (heavyweight), Vitali Degtyarev vs Evgeniy Lykhta (middleweight) and Egor Dolgatchev vs Artyr Vardyanyan (lightweight).

Chessboxing World Champion Frank Stoldt defends his title as slumbering Russia awakes!
On 5 July 2008 the nationwide chessboxing tournament 2008/2009 throughout Germany will be inaugurated in Berlin. The evening will climax with the fight Frank Stoldt vs. Nikolay Sazhin. Frank Stoldt won the first light heavyweight world championship title in chess boxing after defeating American David Depto (San Francisco) on 9 November 2007 in a dramatic fight. This time he defends his title against 19 year-old Russian Nikolay Sazhin.
