World Famous Poplar Lounge

The World Famous Poplar Lounge is a local bar in the Midtown area where anything can happen and usually does. I have owned the bar for over 20 years and it was originally accross the street until we decided to move to our new location at 2586 Poplar Avenue. So about rush hour on a Friday afternoon we decided it would be a good time to saw the bar in half and blaze across the busiest street in Memphis at rush hour and relocate (which we did, with no injuries reported that we know off, Wink,wink)! We now have finished a state of the art recording studio run by Chris Scott, Eric Philips, and Eric Flettridge. Not kidding about where the stars hang as as "Hustle and Flow", by local Craig Brewer filmed the movie here and it won and Oscar for Best Song. ZZ TOP also recorded a DVD here, as well as many celebrities who have jammed here John Entwistle, Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), John Prine, Lucinda Williams last week, and the list goes on and on. My favorite is a painter called Norton Wisdom, who does performance art while bands play, he's world renowned and the greatest guy you'll ever meet. Some come on down and there's no telling who you might run into. See YA !
