Worldfly straddle two extremely different worlds, two members are from Darwin-Australia, and two are from Germany. Each European summer, they settle themselves in the German city of Heidelberg, which has become their home away from home. They have generated an exciting following, both in Australia and in Europe over the last 3 years. In 2007 the band were first invited to perform at the Prestigious POPKOMM music festival in Berlin, touring Germany, and France regularly ever since.
They have performed at Major festivals in Australia, including 2 appearances at the 'Woodford folk festival' and 3 consecutive invites to the famous 'Byron Bay East Coast Blues and Roots festival'.
They have just released their debut album 'It's too late for turning back'. Their music is grand, melodic, euphoric and emotionally rewarding with equal parts of Snow Patrol and James Blunt. Founding member Michael Maher is a powerful singer and award winning songwriter, who onstage alternates freely between guitar and piano. He was born and raised in the ‘desert heart’ of Australia, but developed a ‘world view’ of music at an early age traveling to Cuba, Asia, Europe and the United States several times, and as a consequence worldfly's songs embody the idea of travelling, seeing how other people live, being open to different ways of viewing the world, and human compassion.
In 2006 Michael was named 'Australian Songwriter of the Year' for his song 'Someone Special' by the Australian Songwriters Association.
On returning to Australia after a ten year stay in Germany, Michael teamed up with Adelaide born Rebecca Harris, who is one of the finest cello players in the country. Worldfly's rhythm section dubbed 'The German Connection' consists of fellow founding members, and long time friends Guido Muly and Jochen Joerder, whom he met during his 10 year stay in Germany.
