About me:

I am committed to the idea of "Enabling People Through Music."

An affordable alternative to music therapy

I'm interested in developing long-term musical relationships with individuals or with small groups of those with additional needs, of any age.

"Hand drumming is a unique activity that combines proven health-promoting strategies including self-expression, group support, nurturing, exercise, stress reduction and of course, music making. Laura Cousins is one of the very first recipients of a Diploma in Therapeutic Drumming from the Therapeutic Drumming Foundation in Nottingham. This course is accredited by the British Complementary Medicine Association. She has been a professional drum circle facilitator for five years, and has trained with Arthur Hull - the founder of the modern Drum Circle movement. Using drums and other instruments in a facilitated group can help enhance basic life skills, encourage relaxation and focus, enhance non-verbal communication, foster creative expression, improve individual confidence and encourage participation in a group activity. But, more than that, it is just plain FUN!"

Organic Music

I'm fascinated by the idea that drums and other percussion instruments, coupled with basic empathic listening techniques, can become a real force for change in a person's life.

Organic music is something you grow on your own, without chemicals, machines or artificial influence.

You don't buy Organic Music ready-made, pre-packaged, frozen, dried or in a tin. You take the raw ingredients and produce it from scratch.

Growing Organic Music requires a bit of effort on your part, but sounds so much tastier than its battery-farmed equivalent.

With Organic Music sessions, I can show you how you can instigate, co-create and celebrate your group's own piece of musical artistry.

Hi Laura, It is great to hear about your love of the frame drum. 20 yrs ago, it was rare for a frame drum to be in the hands of a woman. Especially in the U.S. Now more women are playing across the country.Wonderful, enjoy the exploration.
