WRC 1999- 2001
The World Rhythm Collective began in South America in January 1999. While living in Ecuador, singer-songwriter Nick Roll from England and Christophe Blanc from France were fortunate to meet and play with some of the best musicians working there. They formed a truly international band (there are 16 musicians from 9 different countries on the first C.D. - Ecuador, Peru, Cuba, Chile, Mexico, England, France, Spain & Russia!) which evolved from a club latin-funk band to becoming the “world rhythm collective” of the studio recording. The band performed in crisis-torn Ecuador, and in February 2000, despite the military coup and erupting volcanoes around them (no exaggeration), they managed to record an album of beautiful, sophisticated and accessable songs. An infectious blend of latin, jazz and funk rhythms, their music memorably reflects the different origins and musical backgrounds of all those that contributed.
The CD was initially only sent to a few contacts in the search for licensing some of the tracks. The reaction has always been very positive:
