Worms of the Earth :: SYNOPSIS
Worms of the Earth is an industrial project located in Baltimore, MD. I began the project in the year two thousand and three. The only member is myself: dan barrett, sometimes refered to by ID [.d4n b4rr3tt.]. Though Worms of the Earth is a "musick project", it goes much deeper than the musick alone. I create music which graces the following genres: power/rhythmic noise, dark ambient, aggrotech, breakcore. I have self-released several albums, and my music is featured on several compilations. In may 2008 I will be releasing an album on the canadian industrial/ambient label Bugs Crawling Out Of People. I hope to be able to continue to push the boundaries of what people consider "power noise" and I would like to perhaps transmute into something much more varied and dynamic, something that people cannot currently fathom. Something that reaches beyond the walls of your physical form and separates the inner levels of consciousness and being. Something that reaches beyond all boundaries to transmute that consciousness into a time and place beyond the depths of this illusory plane.

Don't worry, hard shit is my middle name! lol

I'm always thrilled to meet other industrial fans who are also into black metal. Seems like there's a chunk who are like "ew" and then a surprisingly sizable chunk who embrace both genres. Metal's my first love, but I actually discovered industrial and black metal roundabout the same time so that always makes me wonder if it's the reason why I have such an affinity for the harder, darker end of the genre. Did my time in a ton of shitty black metal bands in high school too, hehe.

and I agree with you completely. I'd like the industrial scene so much more if there was a better variety of things happening because regular club nights get very stale fast. Hell, I'll be the first to admit that when I've had weekly residencies it gets easy to fall into the trap of playing the same shit week in and week out because you know what works and it becomes easy. Of course, that also means it gets boring.

That party was AWESOME but unfortunately it happened only twice. It was a great party and I keep telling my friend who came up with the idea that it needs to happen again, but I'm just not sure he wants to do another one (much to my dismay). Anyway, the music is fucking excellent... I hadn't heard of your stuff until recently, but found it through my friend Trent's profile. Anyway, I'll see ya Friday, I'm the other DJ for the fest in Allentown!

Fake 8-bit? Ha, 8-bit was done with computers to begin with. Why should it be limited? It's the limitations that make it sound like shit. Hell, even old chiptune that was really donewith the actual NES or GameBoy chips with only 8 sounds at a time... that's still a lot more layers than I hear with most 8-bit crap out there.
There's one song from the original Pokemon games I would love to hear remixed. It's the creepy song from when you're inside the Power Plant before you catch Zapdos. That song is badass and deserves props.
Does 8-bit have any kind of modulation, such as VPM or ring/ sync modulation? I don't know how any of the Nintendo games I played back in the day would've been able to pull off the kinds of sounds they did with just square waves.
What kinda stuff can you do to spice up the oscillators?

Chiptune, huh? Hey man, just make it good. If I wanted to hear shitty 8-bit I'd go out and buy an NES and then get 10 games for under a dollar.
If I recall correctly, some 8-bit games have songs that have more than one layer. Most 8-bit out there is some run-of-the-mill jackass with Fruity Loops who wants to repeat the same boring arpeggiated square wave over and over again. No background pads, no changing it up, just boring tunes that sound like ass. But I think you'll do better than that. How will you do drums, will you be using samples or will you be filtering white noise and layering square waves for drums?
Btw, I don't invest money in those stay-awake pills, I just drink a lot of energy drinks.

Yeah tell me about it. American Directors can't make up their stuff anymore, so they have to remake Japanese horror.

I thought about writing some horror stories and selling them to American directors to have something original to make.

Jul 3 2008 10:12 AM

Yeah I heard about that movie. It seems pretty interesting.I want to see his movie Kamisama no pazuru (God's Puzzle)

I agree that Japanese horror is the best. I think too many American directors are remaking their films.
