Hi, I'm the editor of WorshipIdeas.com - a free website and weekly email newsletter devoted to the practical side of contemporary church worship.
I love congregational worship songs. It's not easy to write a song that's simple enough for people to sing together, yet still be catchy and interesting.
Back in 2003 I had a songwriting contest at the website. I got some good songs and some... not so good songs... but one day I got an email from England with an mp3 attached. The song was "Our God Reigns" by the young UK worship leader Tim Light. I couldn't believe how good it sounded - and this song won my contest (you can download a free mp3 and chord chart at WorshipIdeas.com.) I think it's as good as anything you'd hear from Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin or Tim Hughes, and will one day be used all over the world (it's been download by over 20,000 churches to date!)
Since then Tim and I have become friends and have written several songs together. One day I suggested that we write a Christmas praise song since there aren't many out there. In one day we came up with "I Adore You" and "A Light Has Dawned."
"I Adore You" is really easy to learn and can be stuck on the end of any Christmas praise set. Then Tim wrote additional Easter lyrics so you can sing the song at Easter and at communion. The communion version is what's here at MySpace.
"Lead Me to Calvary" is a new tune I wrote to the old hymn lyrics, and Tim is singing it here. The technology today is amazing - I created the track in my home studio, Tim sang it in England and emailed it back to me!
I also like to write songs based on Scripture - I don't think we have enough of these type of songs in our worship. "Every Day" is an upbeat song based on Psalm 145.
Another type of song you don't hear much in today's contemporary worship is benedictions. Tim and I wrote "The Lord Bless You" last year - try singing it at the end of your service.
You can download free mp3s of these and other songs at the "PraiseSongStore.com, and purchase inexpensive sheet music and chord charts. I hope you enjoy them!
