Based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, 28 year old vocalist Adam OConnor has been a prominent member of the local jazz scene since 1999. With his annual performances at The Jazz Winnipeg Festival including his breakout performance of My Funny Valentine at a Chet Baker Tribute in 2000, opening for Cassandra Wilson in 2003, performing at an evening in honor of Oliver Jones in 2004, corporate shows for clients like Microsoft and finishing in the top four of Project Cool in 2005, Adam has proven to be a well seasoned young artist who performs with wit, maturity and grace.
His vocal talent is remarkable and his stage presence is world class. This is an artist who has mastered the art of connecting with his audience. He captivates with his vulnerability then takes you on a journey performing in English, Spanish and Portuguese. On a recent trip to Mexico Adam had the opportunity to perform at the Mayan Palace in Nuevo Vallarta.
OConnor takes the great American songbook and makes it his own. A versatile artist who has performed in every musical configuration from a duo to big band he possesses a classic vocal style that is truly timeless.
Adam OConnor is at home on a stage: As a singer in his own right, fronting a tight band; as Chet Baker in a jazz festival tribute; or going toe-to-toe with Winnipegs best in a jazz competition. Adam OConnor keeps a foot in each of two worlds when he hits the stage he infuses his modern singing with a sense of the history of jazz, as it should be. - Chris Smith, Winnipeg Free Press
